Mortal Kombat has been around since the 90’s, its 11 main instalments have always brought a mixture of fun gameplay and intriguing lore. Throughout the franchise, 99 unique fighters have been playable and today, after weeks of being in production, I present my ranking of all 99 Kombatants! (If they’re playable... they count!) Let Mortal Kombat Begin!!

Love how MK1 gave some love to a lot of the characters that you literally said needed some love showed for them. Reptile and Baraka being two that really got some justice done.

Honestly, coming from MK 1, it's great seeing so many of the low ranked characters getting back and being great, even Dairou is technically back and fairly intriguing.

Out of all the non-obvious characters (scorpion, sub-zero, kitana, liu kang...), the ones I really wanted to see high up in rank were Kenshi and Erron Black, I'm glad they made it to the top 15 <3

The only reason that Kobra, Jarek and Hsu Hao are still in the franchise is because we need more Black Dragon members than just Kano.

I like how in MKX Bo Rai Cho was treated a tad bit more seriously and wasn't as much of a joke character. They also slimmer him down a bit so I think he's a bit more believable as a fighter, jumping around and stuff like that.

Yeah, Scorpion is definitely #1 in my book as well. He's the first character that comes to mind when I think of Mortal Kombat. Iconic character, hands down.

I actually dig Kollector's design a lot, both visually and the very unique moveset. I really hope he gets more appearances in the future because right now almost all of Shao Kahn's allies are very BIG LOUD IN YOUR FACE kind of villains where as Kollector has more of the sneaky man in the shadows vibe. So at least he has kind of a unique space for now. He's got potential.

Shujinko is sad, he was just a young kid who was tricked into believing he was helping the elder gods save the realms and his compassion was manipulated. He lost over 50 years of his life.

Absolutely love this list. Random point to make but I agree with the comments about Fujin. I remember seeing him in MKX and wondering why they had him in the story but not as a playable character. He was at his absolute best in Aftermath though and he felt SO cool to play as. Sincerely hoping we see him again soon.

Erron black seems to be killing all of the crappy ps2 era characters. we see him drop hsu hao’s head in mk11. and in mkx intro dialogue he tells kano that he killed kobra. I’d like to see this become a running joke sense the ps2 era really had some shitty characters that I wouldn’t mind seeing get killed
