How to Stop Windows 10/11 from Auto Updates & Installing Apps (Microsoft Store)

If you are not ready to upgrade to Windows 11 yet, you can block release updates and manually allow only the updates you want to make sure Windows 11 doesn’t get installed on your Windows 10 PC. We’ll show you how to do just that.

On Windows 10, quality updates (or cumulative updates) download and install automatically as soon as they become available. Although this automatic approach allows devices to receive security updates to patch vulnerabilities, improve performance, and bring enhancements without user interaction, it is perhaps one of the most controversial features.

Typically, it's because updates contain bugs that can negatively affect the experience in many different ways. For example, they could break existing features, introduce driver and application compatibility problems, Blue Screen of Death (BSoD), and they require a restart to complete the installation that can disrupt the user workflow.

If you tend to see more problems than benefits during updates, or you have a good reason to use a computer unpatched, depending on your edition of Windows 10, you can disable automatic updates using the Settings app or permanently with the Group Policy or Registry.

Microsoft's Windows updates often bring new features, performance improvements, and bug fixes to your PC. However, at times the updates can cause more issues than they resolve. As a result, you may wonder if there is a way to stop automatic updates in Windows 11.

Built-in options in Windows 11 allows you to disable updates temporarily. If you want a more permanent solution, you need to tweak your registry entries or disable the update service. Here we show you every possible way to disable automatic updates on Windows 11.

This tutorial will apply for computers, laptops, desktops, and tablets running the Windows 7, Windows 8/8.1, Windows 10 and Windows 11 operating systems (Home, Professional, Enterprise, Education) from all supported hardware manufactures, like Dell, HP, Acer, Asus, Toshiba, Lenovo, Huawei and Samsung.

But will it stop install of unwanted apps? For example when I install my GPU driver and it installs the intel command every time, but I use the intel beta command centre which is far superior but the other one still force installs. Or an updated wifi driver install and then on reboot windows force installs stupid killer app that I will never use, even though I unchecked it during install. I have been searching for hours on how to stop windows installing apps and this is all I can find. Same advice everywhere but people are talking about updates, I am talking about installing the initial app to begin with (and preventing that behaviour).
