Create Chicago-style footnotes in MS Word

Chicago style uses shortened footnotes if you have a bibliography page. Here's how to add them.

So far I always had to use either MLA or APA which is already confusing. Adding Chicago style to that made things even worse so this is very helpful!

How do you get the small 1 for the citation in your research paper. I understand you put a period, quotation mark then a 1, but I'm missing something because this didn't work for me.

The problem is that some places want a full footnote for the first time a source is cited, whether there is a biblio or not. That's really what I was looking for.
