How To Perform Wheelchair To Car Transfer

It is necessary to know how to properly transfer techniques to protect yourself and those who under your care.

Caregiver Tips:
☑️ Before starting the transfer, inform the person what you are going to do.

☑️ Slide the seat back, this provides enough room to perform the transfer smoothly.

☑️ It is recommended to use a chair of similar seat height to the wheelchair.

☑️ Stand very closely to the person while you transfer them.

☑️ Avoid slippery footwear.

☑️ If the person you are transferring starts losing control and begins to fall, bend your knees, hold them close and lower them slowly to the nearest safe surface and lastly, call for help.

But what if the patient cannot stand at all nor help in any way what so ever and is equally handicapped in the whole of the body = both the legs and upper body cannot help with the transfer to the car at all. How do you make the transfer happen then? What if the patient need to go to the bathroom really fast = it must not take longer than two minutes?

Roll the windows down and most people can stand independently.

Ay talaga sa driver's seat si patient kala ko sa passenger seat sila😅 pano naman kapag metatas ang car 6 seater?

You could never do this with someone with any weight, I work in the industry and would never do this transfer where they are hanging there body weight around your neck, do this repetatively and you will have neck injury. A physio would get a lot of injured support workers as clients if they did this transfer. Not happy.
