Excellent video. One thing I would think twice about is draining the engine block. Whereas this is the ideal way of draining all the old coolant, many times it is VERY difficult to remove the drain plug. It's often the case that this plug has not been removed since the engine was built! Best to skip this step. If you break anything in removing the plug, you might ruin your engine block. A lose-lose situation. Good luck.

THIS IS THE BEST COOLANT FLUSH VIDEO !!! Check this against others and you will see how he points out over parts of the engine that need to be flushed out that most videos don't even mention. Complete instructions here.
Thank you so much.

Hi Luis! Generally you should change your antifreeze every 5 years or 50, 000 miles. However, this all depends on the type of antifreeze you use, and the best reference will be your vehicles owners manual.

One of the clearest, most concise coolant flushing videos I've seen-good job. A little more time could have been spent on draining coolant from engine block, but I guess that's pretty straightforward. Also, any thoughts on how important it is to refill with water and run engine several times, as many others recommend-as opposed to simply flushing it with hose and tee as you've described here? And what about removing thermostat before flushing, since it'll be closed when the engine is cold? IT stands to reason that the coolant will flow better, and more debri be flushed out (if there is any), if the thermostat isn't blocking it!!! Many videos, many ideas about the "best" method... it would be nice if they all agreed!! Please respond re my questions above-I'm sure I'm not the only one who's wondering. Thanks again for a good video!!!

You have no idea how many of these videos I had to watch to find out which heater hose to install the flush kit you for being just thorough enough w/o wasting our think it'd say on the kit itself

Nice Video but one problem. At time 0:35 the thermostat is shown next to the air intake cooler. At time 0:38 a view from the top radiator hose back to the thermostat is shown with about 2 feet of hose on a down angle. Since the car is not running or wasn't running the thermostat is shut and that hose between the thermostat and radiator did not get flushed and is filed with dirty coolant. Look at the video again at time 0:38 that's alot of dirty coolant still in the system. Defeats the purpose of the back flush,

I would definitely remove the thermostat before the flush or at the end of the flush, un-clamp the top radiator hose at the thermostat and flush thru that hose as it only goes straight down the radiator to the your drain, your not contaminating the rest of the system then your flush is complete. Using tap water from the hose may have much mineral content especially where I live, I guess that may be okay for flushing. I've never added hard water to my system.

I went to a new advance auto in my town for the first time just to buy some 1/4" fuel line. Looked it up one their web site and it said 79 cents a foot. Went down there and it was $2.50 a foot. A gal working there with blue, green, and red hair was laughing about it. And that's in a brand new store. Will never go back.

The instructions on the Prestone kit have you start and idle the engine while flushing and run the heater control on high.

First drain the radiator and recovery tank first....and block! Trying to avoid removing block drain. If you are flushing the block through the Tee why drain the block?

But there's no mention here of whether you need to remove the thermostat or not.
My thinking is that if you're pumping hose water through the system it's cold water and the thermostat will be closed and water won't circulate.

Is this kit and procedure applicable to modern day cooling systems?

Great video. You pump into a 55 gallon drum for recycling. I don't have a 55 gallon drum, and if I did it would not be easy to take to the auto parts store to recycle. Typically, how much water is used in this flushing process? I could drain into 2 alternating buckets, then pour into empty gallon milk containers to take to the recycler.
