Jamaican here, I definitely approve (although if you guys want to get pigeon peas for your rice and peas, try to find a Caribbean grocery store if you live in an area that has plenty of West Indians).

Caribbean food is by far the most underrated cuisine. Amazing, unique flavours

As a Jamaican native, it makes me gush that you made a traditional Jamaican meal. If she were still alive, my grandma would be proud. Seriously, you pretty much just made my childhood dinner plate! Thank you Babish!

One thing I love about Babby is that he always approaches international/ethnic dishes with the utmost respect and reverence. He does his hw to say the very least

This wasn’t bad. I’ve never used soy sauce, we normally used browning.
Also, Callaloo would have made the plate more authentic.
Folks should probably know that the scotch bonnet in the rice is not allowed to burst, it’s just for the flavor- take it out before serving.

The amount of anxiety when he used his freshly chilli-ed gloves to play with his glasses 📈📈📈📈

To celebrate Spirited Away’s 20th anniversary, wouldn’t it be cool to try and tackle making the feast No Face eats 🤩🤩🤩

As a Jamaican it warms my heart to see Babish tackle our cuisine. Well done Andrew.

"These are a little hard to find."

Man there was a period where I could not find ANY habaneros but scotch bonnets were in easy supply...

In Jamaica there are many individuals of Chinese descent so I can see where recipe #2 comes from. Combining both recipies - as you have - results in the more common flavor profile you will find. I would suggest giving that rice and peas another try - I'm not Jamaican but it looks a bit friendly.

"Scotch bonnets are spicy so make sure you wear your gloves, eye protection and a helmet"
5 seconds later...
"I forgot my scotch bonnets. Ill just grab them"

Not gonna lie, kinda hurt my brain when he was talking about lime juice, then made the motion of squeezing the limes over everything, but scallions came out xD

This looks pretty darn close to what I had in Jamaica the only thing I could say is missing would be that the cooks basted the chicken with clarified butter while it was grilling and they served the cornmeal fried dough as a side. That's a meal I won't forget for the rest of my life. I was starving after a day of horseback riding and almost getting drowned in the ocean by said horse. A couple Red Stripes make it perfection.

As a Jamaican who’s been watching this show for years, this is pretty cool lol

As a Florida resident whom lives near, Jamaican, Cuban, Creole, South American and Central American cooking culture I was intrigued on how Babish was gonna tackle this.

Remind that Jamaican ginger has more heat but any ginger works

I wanted Babish to say "Hehe Boiii" so much during this video...

Jamaican here, you did pretty well. One main thing to improve on would be the colour of the rice but that's because you used canned peas and the redder colour would come from the fresh ones. But again, overall you did well and I can see you did your research as always to get it as accurate as possible.

Hey Babish, could you make the cuisine in "Welcome to the Sticks"?
The only food I've seen there is a "smelly cow cheese", must be delicious just by the smell, but then there's also something called "gu-gu" I think, which may just be big potato chips and that's it, I can't seem to find out what it really is.
