I have bought my storage from my local record store. The owner's husband makes them. True, they are more expensive the Ikea, but I like the look and I really like my local record store so it is a win/win for me.

2 things: There are two types of milk crates. Ones that hold records and ones that don't because they are too small. Also, I would pick a milk crate (that fits records) over a wooden crate like the one you showed any day.

5:35 Great video as always, Jarrett.

I love my IKEA Kallax storage shelves which are tailor-made for records and one trick I use to hide some record clutter is to take one record out of every section and display it in front of the other 75 to 80 records behind it. That way, I can enjoy the cover art and change it as often as I'd like. :)

I've been using Kallax cubes for years. I downsized my collection within the last ten years, and I've currently got around 12 thousand 33's, 9 thousand 45's, and 7 thousand 78's. I've been collecting for almost 40 years.

For 99¢ U-Haul has small moving boxes that perfectly hold about 100 records. This is an economical way to store records when not in use or until a more aesthetically pleasing option can be had.

Hey Jarrett, great video my friend! I'm a former "private, for hire" DJ, here in England, been collecting records avidly since I was 6 (1975) nearly 7000 singles, just over 2000 vinyl albums, all on shelving I built. Not the biggest collection in the world but I'm very proud of it. Love your videos mate, please keep em comin'!!!

Make sure you orient the Kallax the right way; i.e. you want your records on the "long pieces" that are the SHELVES and NOT on the shorter pieces which are the "walls" only supported by the dowels! I've seen horrible images of Kallax shelves that have COLLAPSED due to too much weight on them when they've been setup the wrong way! Other than that -- the Kallax is great!

How Relevant! I was literally assembling my *second* IKEA Kallax Shelves today after I'd ran out of space! 😂

New video idea:

"Is it actually possible to unwarp a record?"

*asking for a friend...*

I reached the 600 LP milestone recently. I''m using a Kallax (2x5), Bestå (also from Ikea) and a couple of old port wine crates for my 12". As for my 7 and 10 inches, I had a couple of small crates built for my 7" which sit on top of my Bestå, which is turn sits atop of the Kallax, and the 10" fit perfectly in the hifi cabinet, where I also store a few odd size CD cases. My biggest headache for the past few months is finding a decent solution for store my cassettes.

Great video. I’m definitely a fan of the videos like this where you talk to us without all the cuts.

I absolutely love your videos. I actually store my vinyl in a plastic container with a lid. I found that the material on the bottom of the vinyl doesn't damage the cover. Plus, it's great to keep dust out.

I currently have 17 records. I store 6 of them on the wall constantly and the others in a wooden box close to my TT. The nicest thing about that box is that is from my dad's old audio setup and it's at least 30-40 yo. It even has a support on top to store tapes/CDs. I usually store them behind the sleeve to minimize the ring formation on the front of the sleeve.

I have about 1100 vinyl LPs in my collection. I store them in two Better Homes & Gardens 8 cube organizers, that are similar to the Kallax units from Ikea.

I went with the KALLAX when I moved my collection 3 years ago. The record cabinets I had built years before were too high for the new room that my records are stored in and, as you said, the KALLAX from Ikea has cubbies that are just the right size and with the variety of configurations available work out perfectly for my record and reel tape collections. A total of 80 cubbies with 70 filled with LP's (over 4200) and 10 filled with tape reels. Up against a wall they work great and were easily bolted together at the back to form a solid storage system. I found 15 clear with red overlapped lidded containers that work great for storing and transporting my 7" vinyl disks (about 125 per container). And then there are my CD's and DVD's that I store on Ikea Journalist solid metal shelves (sadly no longer available) which are the strongest Ikea shelves I've ever purchased. Great look and easily disassembled /transported /and re-assembled. I would have bought and used more of them for my record collection if they had still been available because of there strength, durability and modern look.

I don't know how many I have. Been collecting since 1968, Sgt Peppers mono. But on my brother made 3/4 inch Birch dual wall units it measures almost 14 feet and I stopped buying early 2000s. Mostly 12inch imports in the 80 - 90s
TTs are two Dual CS5000 one with a high output moving coil cartridge Denon DL160, maybe a Denon DL301mkII with a Denon AU320 in the future. Still have my Dual 1229 from 1974 with a Pickering XV15/1200E Micro Acoustics MA2002e and a Shure M92E
Also a Kenwood KD650 on my wishlist

I had a bit of paranoia about my records being at a slant in my shelf, thought there might be uneven pressure that would case them to warp. Seeing your setups assured me itd be fine, cheers man 🙂
