K390 Spyderco Endura factory vs first sharpening edge retention testing. This video shows why it's so important to sharpen your knife. Just one sharpening showed a gain over 200% in total cutting in a 1 inch section. Don't be afraid to go to the stones on a new knife, as long as I keep getting gains like this I'll continue to talk about how important sharpening is.

Got the endella in k390, definitely had more than one angle per side originally, on the 4th sharpen now. Such crispness, bought the pm2 about a year ago, its due for a manix model dammit. Great video, best wishes for Tennessee. I love visiting up there but FL is home, for me anyway. God granted very few people with extreme talent to cut cardboard to such perfection. With all of the preconceived notions of FL man, (mostly true) I could stand tall knowing, while someone in my state is making shake and bake in their grandma's bathroom, or taking rectal fentanyl at the park, we as Florida's finest had G with O 76 and one of the best knife channels on YouTube. The loss will sting!

The bevel on my K390 Endela was wider on one side than the other as well. No micro bevel, but very obviously uneven. It's fixed after sharpening, but it's kind of disappointing to see this from Spyderco. I had to remove a good deal of steel to reprofile it, but I guess you could say I removed enough steel to equal 2 sharpenings, so hopefully I'm past any fatigued steel now. I can say it's held it's new edge extremely well so far.

What a good boy! I lost my pug last year, I still miss him every day. Thanks for all you do here, much appreciated.

When picking up the k390 blue endura at my local shop, I looked at 4 different units, to be able to be relatively happy with the bevels and be able to settle on one to keep… two of them had absolutely atrocious bevels, very wavy and asymmetrical… so it appears that it’s not just the golden factory struggling with the factory sharpening… semi city is much better in terms of belt chatter, but still has issues with symmetry, I think it has to do with machine mounting of the blades and stability with respect to the belts… semi city has much better blade finish, overall, though

I am thinking this K390 from Seki City will out cut the PM2 or Para3 from Golden. This steel sharpens to a much finer edge and deburrs much easier than those earlier models. I think they just need a few more sharpening to see more consistent results. As always thank you for the time and effort.

Great tip to sharpen new knives.. I picked up a PM2 in K390 had to even out the edge. I usually pick the lowest angle side as the angle for both.
Thanks for the video 😎👍

I just got this knife yesterday and sharpened it today to a 1 micron polished edge. I have to say for the price it’s an incredible value.

My police also in k390 has a really wavy bevel towards the back left side but I haven’t measured it yet

My dragonfly k390 took 7 sharpenings to get where I felt it should be. It did have chatter and a light brown factory edge though. My endela only took 3 edges. You are right. If you want the full potential of a steel you need to clean up the factory garbage

I measured my Endela with my Goniometer and the left side bevel is sharpened at 11 degrees and the right side is at 14 degrees

Really looking forward to the results on how much metal is removed with sharpening. This is something I’ve been wondering about and trying to find information about, but haven’t really found anything conclusive as for actual testing. Thanks for all the work and videos.

I just got the police 4 k390 and my show side bevel is about 10 degrees and the other is 15 degrees and wavey. It's centered though and I'm going to sharpen it so I don't care but it's pretty off. It's my first Seki city so I agree with people that say the other factories are better fit and finish but I wanted to try k390 and the stretch 2 straight spine is taking too long:)

The claim of wasting steal 🤦🏻‍♂️ the sharpening would happen anyways following moderate usage so why not unleash the potential that you paid for. I like my knives sharp and as “the knife guy” in my Fire Department, I’m not trying to look like a chump with a pricey knife that can’t cut. Thank you for this buddy, we know it’s hard work but we wouldn’t know these things without you.

I'll be taking a hard look at my Endura when it gets here and will let you know if it looks like yours.
