5 ROV Encounters with Unusual Deep Ocean Creatures | New Magnapinna Squid Footage

Today we look at five fascinating pieces of footage recorded by remote operated vehicles (ROVs), mostly in the Gulf of Mexico-- including a clip of the Magnapinna / Bigfin squid which hasn't been posted on this channel previously!

Magnapinna Squid are one of those ocean creatures that I'm always excited to see more video of. A lot of people think they're creepy, and to a certain degree I can understand why that's the case, but they're fascinating and strangely beautiful, too. Hopefully we can discover more about them soon.

Also the extra footage made me belly laugh because of the sheer situation and goofiness. The tiny ass shark biting the diver, the huge ass grouper coming to the divers aid while he keeps commentating with that minion voice🤣

Btw for anyone wondering why his voice sounds like that, deep sea divers breathe a gas mix called trimix, which contains helium instead most of the nitrogen to reduce the narcotic effect

Seeing the frogfish just walking around in it's natural environment, digging around for food in the sand with it's little "whiskers", while plankton and jellies are floating around it like little birds and bugs reminded me of the creatures here on land. It makes the ocean seem not so scary and foreign for a moment.

I've seen lots of footage of whales before. But seeing them in the deep sea interacting with ROV's just out of curiosity is really fantastic. They really are incredible intelligent creatures.
Also. that Grouper is a god damn hero 😅

Amazing deep sea beauties that grouper was huge, the jelly looked like a dancing frill snd the sperm whale it looked so cute I noticed something translucent swam across when the frogfish was shown. You are doing a fantastic job in showing the magnificence of these deep sea creatures 🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹
