PS5 Pro Announcement Is Soon: Is This The 60fps Guaranteed Console?

We're very close to Sony finally confirming the PlayStation 5 Pro. With September right around the corner, and TGS at the end of the month, AND a recent rumor about an upcoming State of Play -- it seems like the company will finally be talking soon. So for the moment I wanted to have another discussion surrounding the mid-cycle update, and it's implications on game performance. Does PS5 Pro make sense in the same way it did for PS4 Pro? Will this be the console that guarantees 60fps for your games? And will it sell as much, if not better than PS4 Pro? All valid questions. What's not valid is the idea that a hotdog is a sandwich. That's why we call them hotdogs. If they have a different name, then it's not a sandwich. Unless you want to argue that it still falls under the genre of sandwiches, and its sub-genre is hotdog.

Kinda ironic for me that the generation that is actually focussing more on frame rates and general performance boosts, is also the generation where most of the games I'm playing are smaller indie games that don't need it.

I think the console will sell really well considering GTA 6 is coming out next year. Sony won't miss the opportunity to make a Bundle and promote it as the best way to play the next Entry of the GTA Series.

For people complaining about the Pro, just keep playing on your OG PS5. Sony isn't forcing you to upgrade. OG PS4 owners did fine the entire generation, without upgrading. Even late games like Horizon Forbidden West and GOW Ragnarök, looked and played great on the OG hardware.
This is for enthusiasts, who want's the improved performance and graphics. And it might even make the OG model cheaper to buy as well.

No, as usual devs will push for visuals rather than performance. Graphics are easier to sell than performance.

I think the Pro model is a win all around. Sony and AMD get a return on their R&D, developers familiarize themselves with the tools they'll be using on the PS6, enthusiasts get a slightly better console experience, and non-enthusiasts get to play all the same games.

People have such unrealistic expectations. The PS5 pro is not going to be able to run 4k games at a stable 60fps. If they built a console like that it would cost more then most are willing to spend. Anyone looking to lay down that kind of money would just buy a high-end PC.

I’m just now playing games that were optimized for PS4 Pro and they look amazing on the PS5 (I came from a 2014 PS4).

I can’t wait to play optimized PS5 Pro games on the PS6 in 2030.

The marketing might be seen as a little embarrassing as they will probably be pushing the 60fps again. They’ll need to very clearly explain the differences between the base console and the pro. Because if they’re marketing the same things like 60-120fps and 4k quality, people will wonder what the point of the pro is.

Andrew House was way off with his comment about keeping people on the platform. Sharing exclusives with other platforms will lose you more users than not having a pro console, IMO.

No, I don't think the PS5 Pro will be the guaranteed 60 FPS console. Like you've said in this video and prior videos, developers always seemed to value visual fidelity over frame rate cause graphics are easier to sell to the general public than 60 or 120 fps. The only thing I hope for is that the Pro can improve visual fidelity while in performance mode cause some devs REALLY sacrifice graphics and prioritize frame rate in some of these newer games.
