Me and a few friends used to spend hours playing Minecraft, we decided to build a huge civilisation in Survival. We made epic castles, monuments, our own monorail and Rollercoaster/train system to a distant town. It taken months of hard work, gathering up materials from mines, building our home and fending off Creepers. But it was worth it. Our civilisation grew and grew, inviting more friends into our city, we made a community.

For no apparent reason, we slowly started to stop playing Minecraft. Months on, I had no word from my friends, everybody had moved on to newer games, and our civilisation had become a ghost town. I also decided to pull the plug and give Minecraft a rest.

I now often visit that world, but cease to touch it. I just stop and take a moment, reminisce of all our fantastic memories building and mining. But there's one thing that always gets me the most. The music.

I always wondered why Minecrafts music sounds so sad, and now I've realised. It mirrors the feeling of loneliness, the feeling when you stop and see a world you and others spent so long building, and put every inch of your imagination into; the realisation that we all eventually grow up and lose the treasured time that we used to spend so much of. The moment where you're alone in a world once filled with human life, and now you have nobody to seize the moment with.

It's the sad truth. I'll never let go of Minecraft!

My dad died August 9, 2016. Pancreatic cancer. 4 months after diagnosis.

This song played on loop in the background of my life as my kids played. This song will forever be the melody of his final days. It conjures such intensity in emotion and recollection of those last minutes in his life.

The introduction song became the goodbye prelude. I miss you, dad.

...If it`s day outside, go and watch the clouds for a while.
If it`s nighttime, go and stargaze.
Take a deep breath.
You are alive.
This world is wonderful and you`re lucky to be in it.

In my opinion this is the best piece of music ever written for a game. It portrays the game so well. A game about a lonely man being lonely in a lonely world, full of threatening monsters and ghost people who can't interact with you properly. Sounds sad doesn't it? Well, as does as this song. But being lonely is not so bad sometimes. That's why the song is perfect. Sad and lonely, but beatifull and magnificent at the same time. Thank you Notch, thank you Mojang team, thank you random guy uploading this to the internet. Thank you people who refuse to let mine craft fade away. Stay strong. Keep mine craft alive. For all of our shakes.

Imagine coming home from a stressful day, *_then finally booting up Minecraft and hearing Minecraft's menu theme._*

Is it bad that I almost cry listening to this because I know my childhood has slipped away?

Dear player,

I hope this letter finds you well. It feels a little empty without you here. Right now I'm sitting by the first house we built; not our best work, but I like to see it every once in a while to remind myself of how far we've come.

I'd be lying if I said I didn't miss you. But I know you have a life to live back in your world. I hope you aren't too sad about leaving. The memories you have of our time together - make them your strengths. I've seen the things you're capable of doing when you set your heart on it. You can raise castles, level mountains, and even make a pig fly. I have no doubt that whatever it is you're doing in your world, it's as beautiful as what you did in this one.

One day we'll see each other again. Until then, I'll keep an eye on things here. Someone has to keep those creepers away. It'll be just like how you left it. I promise.

And I'll be here.

Your friend, always,

Steve

Edit: sorry to make so many people cry 🥲

I wish i could go back to the good days when you would wake up on a Saturday, watch some cartoons at 10, then hop on Minecraft with the boys at 12. I remember building an entire city in survival with my friends but its all gone now. And none of them are ever on Minecraft anymore. I glad i grew up with iron pickaxe and iron sword instead of a glider and a golden scar. R.I.P. to the good days. Now excuse me as i go play somr Minecraft for the sake of the good ole' days

I still remember the day I first played Minecraft. It was December 24th 2012. I was at my nan's house for Christmas when my brother introduced me to this game, not long updated to 1.4.6. I had certainly heard of it prior (as a big fan of Yogscast) but I never actually played it. My first experience in the game, though short, was incredible. 2013 would have me hooked on two games, Pokemon Black 2 and Minecraft and when I got my first PC on Christmas day 2015 the first thing I did was play Minecraft, now on 1.7.10.
Though good times aren't to last sadly. Despite me still playing the game for a while I started to grow more distant to it. 2017 came and went and I had barely played the game. At this stage I became the massive Pokemon fan I am today and depression ultimately set in not long after November (despite my then siding with Trump).
Listening to music like this and Calm 3 helps me remember those glory days before I knew politics, I wasn't hooked on Gmod, Binding of Isaac and Terraria and probably going to college in a few months.

Thanks for reading this if you did.

All the servers I played on when I was smaller, are dead...
All my friends I played MC together, are now gone...
I am left alone... Left alone in the most beautiful world...
Left in a world full of the most possibilities to ever exist...
Alone...
... I’m so alone...
