That band was as tight as any Prince ever had, and that tune was the bomb. Aside from which:

It goes without saying that, except for a few brief moments when sharing the stage with the likes of Miles, Prince was more or less always the coolest dude in any room.

But the wild disparity between the impossible cool he was sporting at this point in his career, and the utter lack of any hint of it on the part of his host and, um, his host's other guest, is just totally startling in retrospect. It's as if Prince had dropped into the chat from another planet, which would be no less stunning a cultural event if it happened today, than 20 years ago.

So this was a day after the Musicology press conrerence with full on concert surprise at El Rey, I got in, NPGMusicClub member, I got kicked out because I took a photo with my pocket digital camera, hey, the press was taking photos and videos, one of Prince's security guards grabbed me and tossed me out! But, I snuck back in with a custom made at Kinkos band our color paper, floresscent yellow. Ha! But that wasn't enough. 

I snuck into the POST rehearsal for Leno at the same El Rey theater. Prince and band went through this song in prep for this performance, over and over again, with Prince holding a band meeting on stage, They all surrounded him as he discrussed various things, improvements, joked a bit. Radd seemed to me a bit in over her head. Prince strolled by afterwards, great memories. 

And, I recorded most of it on MiniDisc. For personal use, never nothing more. I don't have the recording anymore as I gave it away to a Prince fan forum 'C0nn3ct0ns'. It wa a kind of 'fly on the wall', oh and they also ran through a bit of Something in the Water Does Not Compute. Perhaps Duane knows what happened to that recording. They probably felt it was beneath their ahem, standards. Too bad because I had more and more other recordings, which remain lost forever, that they could of heard. Forever and ever.
