Prince wrote the song mainly. His father has writing credit as well. The Ladies didn't write it-that's just part of the Purple Rain movie story. The audience are paid extras. This is not a live performance-it is lipsync. However, the recording is a live one not an in studio recording. Every time I watch this video or hear this song I think about the radio broadcaster I heard announce his death he started to cry he said the artists from the soundtrack of my life are leaving me one by one. Plus it is such a tender hearted song.
