The Airbus A380 vs Boeing 747 – Which Plane Is Best?

When the Airbus A380 was introduced, many believed that it would mark the end of the original jumbo jet, the Boeing 747. However, the retirement of the A380 program and the phasing out of the 747 tells us that it will be a rare sight to see both types by the time this decade is over. Nonetheless, at their peak, which aircraft was best? The A380 or the 747? Well, let’s compare the two types in today’s video!

The A380 is a beast, a shame they are no longer manufactured. Been on it twice, once with Emirates and once with Etihad. Very spacious

The 747 is the Queen if the sky, it’s a firefighting plane, a cargo plane, air force one, a passenger plane and more. It is the most beautiful aircraft ever.

The Boeing 747 is the best looking airliner, regal and strong in its poise, a beautiful and elegant airliner.

Love them both because either plane has its benefits and special features but the Boeing 747 hump shape at the top front end is always iconic to me...😃🌟👍

There's a reason the 777X is around the size of the 747. That's because that's as big as you'll ever need for passenger service, you'll never need bigger, nor would you want it due to most airport infrastructure. Passengers love the A380, but it just doesn't work in the real world, unless you build around it, like Emirates did, and even then, I think the 777-10X would work better for them, if it's ever built.

A380 is great for passangers, but Boeing including in the design plan to convert them to cargo planes. Which give the plane essentially a second life.

I like, and have flown on both aircraft. My favorite is the 747, not only for it's legacy of service, but for it's flexibility, and the fact that it did not require the extensive airport modifications that the A380 did.

Boeing 747 by far the prettiest, A380 for comfort by a mile, if you were to ask me which of the two I would fly in an Ultra Long Haul 15 hour flight give me the A380, if you were to ask me which one I would fly for the experience give me the 747.

The A380 will go down in aviation history as a distinctive aircraft for its time. I concur, it will be a rare sight at passenger service airports within the next decade, or so. My crystal ball tells me that the last pilots to fly the B747... have not been born yet. This airframe will be profitably operated well into the middle of this century.

They’re slowly going out, but I still have yet to fly aboard either. The largest I’ve been on is a 777-300er.

I’m neutral because I like both and it be nice to see jumbo aircraft in the future like the 777-10 or an even wider Airbus

The 747 was even able to piggyback a space shuttle. Something an A380 will never do. I've never flown on either. I'd love to fly on both.

The 747 is legendary and iconic. Its been way more successful than the copycat A380 which was fundamentally a flop during its short life span.

A380 is an airport operations headache…limited runways, taxiways, gates, hangar space etc. Unless you’re in DXB, airports will be far more accommodating with your 747 than an A380

You must remember the 747 was designed as a freighter FIRST (for the USAF actually) with passengers an afterthought. That's why the cockpit is so high to allow a "flip up" nose. While the 380 opted for a "double bubble" pressurised cabin that made freight capacity impossible. That means the 380 can easily fit more passengers in the same space as the 747 and also makes a future stretch easy (which the wings and landing gear are overengineered to allow for). But the big downside is that old 380s can only go to scrap, which really matters for depreciation and hence Total Cost of Ownership.

The graceful shape of the 747 is (and always will be) sheer eye candy... 🤗

Well first of all everyone can agree that the 747 is iconic. That’s indisputable.

As for which one is better… well that just depends on what it’s for.

Passenger comfort and overall flight experience: A380

Passenger and fuel economics and carbon footprint: A380* (it is technically better in these categories but depends on capacity)

Anything Cargo related: 747

Looks: Both… (Many people like the iconic look of the 747, me included, but I personally prefer the look of the A380)

Doesn’t matter which plane are the best. I want to fly both of them before they’re completely replaced by the twin-engined WB airliner like the A350 & 787.

For me, it will be team B747. I will always be a fan of the Queen of the Skies in all aspects 🙌🏼

747 has a freighter hatch option. A380 can only do side door cargo. Passenger traffic can be debated, but freighter traffic has only one Queen of the skys.
