How to Convert a jpeg Image into a Vector Image Using Inkscape - Inkscape Tutorial

In order to convert a jpeg to a vector image we use Gimp to crop an image,remove the white background and then save it in png format.

Then using the saved image we import it into Inkscape where we use the Trace function to turn the raster image into a vector image.

All done using free graphic designing software!

We are using Gimp Vers 2.6.11 and Inkscape Vers .48.2

Great tutorial! I had no clue how to use Inkscape and fumbled my way through GIMP. This is going to help me do my own graphic art with these two combined. The way she explains made me understand a lot more what the program is actually doing. :)

Hi John, thank you very much for your kind comments, I hope you find the other tutorials useful.
I(Davina) use Screenflow to record the videos because I use a Mac and Caroline uses Blueberry software on Windows. It is quite a bit cheaper than Camtasia which is also compatible with Windows. You are going to have to bone up on new stuff, you can't let a 13 year take the crown! The oldies rule!
