He skipped over the part about sexual partners. HIV almost never happens in monogamous relationships. The inconvenient truth is that sexual promiscuity is a huge risk factor. Sexual promiscuity and high risk sex such as anal sex are the primary drivers of this disease. Hence certain groups will be overrepresented. For instance in Australia where I am from homosexual men account for 0.9% of the population but 59% of HIV.
