Biden awards the Medal of Honor to four Vietnam veterans

Nearly half a century after the end of the Vietnam war, President Biden awarded the Medal of Honor to four veterans for their service. CBS News national security correspondent David Martin reports.

My father and I took my Vietnam War veteran grandfather to Washington D.C. several years ago for the first time for him to see the Vietnam War Memorial Wall. He got drafted in 1967 and he got injured by shrapnel from a land mine (in addition to getting shot), so he got sent home and received a Purple Heart. However, 6 of his buddies didn't make it back home, so before the trip he made a list of all of their names and where they were located on the wall. As he found each on the wall, he got very emotional knowing that he managed to come home (though injured), get married, have 3 sons, and live another 50 years, but 6 of his friends didn't.

We don't hear enough of Vietnam War vets. While other wars are honored, Vietnam remains stigmatized. It's important that these vets are not forgotten.

Deserve the medal, also should get $, and lots of it. Think when someone turns evidence against a mobster, they get a new identity and money to live out the rest of their lives.
