This is super sad, but at the end, it kinda shows how the dad cares more about his daughter then his son. He knows going near her will kill him, but he did anyway, instead of moving on and taking care of his son. Now, the poor little cat is all by himself. (but this is just kinda how I saw it. just my opinion)

The worst part about it is that the son will grow older knowing his father proved his sister more, and that'll only cause him to have not very good mental health. It always makes me cry no matter how many times I watch it.
