I am a bladder cancer survivor. I hadn’t smoked in 15 years but the urologist told me the damage had been done. The cancer did re-occur a number of times and I had numerous surgeries as well as numerous BCG treatments. It’s been 6 years now that I am cancer free. Thank you God!

Diagnosed at age 55 with a low grade carcinoma in my bladder after peeing pure blood. Scary moment, but Dr was quick to remove it. Did the BCG treatments once a week for about 2 months, then a cystoscope every 3 months, then 6 months and now every year. No reoccurrence and am thankful to my urologist for staying on top of it. Don’t ever be afraid to see a urologist. 👍

I have bladder cancer. I am a 75 year old female and never had any of those risk factors.I had a turbt procedure twice, the first time to take out the tumor and the second to see if any was left behind, which there was none. Mine was high grade, but only on the lineing. My doctor calls it medium grade. It has been almost a year and a half and I will finish my bcg treatments in Jun and so far it has not come back.

I’m a 72 yr old female and found out I had bladder cancer a little over a year ago, I was 70 at the time. Had a TURBT and BCG treatments but my cancer recurred recently and am due to have another TURBT next week. I’ve never been a smoker or worked with chemicals. I never saw blood in my urine but it was found at the doctor’s office microscopically. That led to the diagnosis. My original cancer was high grade then also low grade cancers were found during the first surgery. We’ll see what next week’s surgery shows. Trusting in God for my journey.

I left Chu Lai, Vietnam, in November1969 as a 24yo. (Agent Orange) and was treated for bladder cancer on New Year's Eve in 1975 for what the Doctor said was a grade two polyp. I have lost track of how many cystoscopies I have had, but it has never recurred. I will be eighty this year, I can say, get it checked if you see blood, it probably saved my life.

I am so glad you did this video. It have been experiencing blood in my urine for a while. I have been asking Dr to take care of it. Being on an Advantage plan I have been waiting 2 months to see a Urologist. Next Friday I go to City of Hope to get examined. I have been freaking out and thinking I have cancer. You have calmed me with this video. Thank you guys. Please pray for me.😊❤

The discussion in this video pretty much describes my experience exactly. I just "celebrated" my 20th year of annual cystoscopy. Symptom at age 57 was (a lot of) blood in my urine after running marathon training sessions. It was diagnosed and the polyp was found to be cancer, but thankfully superficial; it was removed and I was back to running after 2 weeks to allow the minor day surgery to heal. Over the next few years and cystoscopies every 3 months, the cancer returned 3 or 4 more times, each time a smaller polyp. Eventually graduated to cystoscopies every 6 months then annually. After 7 years of nothing, a very small polyp was again found and removed and have been clear now for almost 10 years. My urologist has suggested we may stop annual cystoscopies in a few years if everything remains clear. I often joke with him that by now I could probably do my own annual procedure:)

In the UK, the biggest hurdle to getting an appointment is often the GP receptionist. Depending on who answers the phone, you may have to practically beg for a slot. If that doesn’t work, the best option is to go in person—where the staff are usually much more helpful. But not everyone thinks to do that, and some might simply give up. They say, ‘You are in charge of your own health, ’ but the system doesn’t always make that easy.

My bladder cancer was caught early, the result of a CT scan in preparation for treatment for prostate cancer. Being a bit more dangerous, the bladder cancer was treated first. Surgery revealed superficial cancer and they were able to remove it. I had the BCG treatments afterwards. I opted for radiation for the prostate. Nine years later, I go for an annual scope and usually have mild conversation while it is done. It's over before I know it. I tell every male I know to get an annual physical that includes a PSA test. I had no symptoms whatsoever. My prostate cancer was suspected with a mildly high PSA and a biopsy in the doctor's office confirmed a small amount. Had it not been for the prostate cancer, the bladder cancer might have grown. Great video! Early early early testing! Love your channel!

My mom had bladder cancer. She was the type of person who always put herself last. She waited too long to get treatment and ended up passing away. She was a smoker most of her life. I miss her terribly.

I was diagnosed with urothelial cancer 5 years ago. It was treated as a bladder cancer. I had blood in urine, got it checked immediately. Thru CT scan, they found small mass on right ureter (tube from kidney to bladder). I had several rounds of chemo then had to have ureter and kidney removed. I have a cystoscopy every year now to check for any recurrence. So far, all clear. So important to get any blood in urine checked out!!
This was a great video!!

One of my uncles developed bladder cancer at age 65, just at he was retiring in the mid 1970's. They removed his bladder and he used an exterior bag from then on. He lived to be 90 with no more cancer recurrence. I remember he smoked and was overweight when he got the cancer diagnosis. After the surgery he stopped smoking and became very fit. Thanks for the info on how bladder cancer is found and treated today. It seems that we should have less of it - I hope so.

I also had bladder cancer that was caught early after noticing blood in urine. Had the BCG treatment and so far so good, 20 years now.

My FIL had bladder cancer when he was in his late 40's/early 50's. 3 surgeries later and bladder removal, he was declared cancer free. He lived to be 87 when his kidneys failed.

My heet goes out to anyone diagnosed with bladder cancer...ive had microscopic blood in past urine samples....at 64..i knew I had to be brave and gave the dreaded cystocsopy....its important to rule things out...
I just need to me, I was terrified of the procedure....having read so, so many Frightened the life out of me....but...it WASNT terrible.. It WASN'T was over with VERY quickly....
All was clear inside...
So..just trying to reassure in urine doesnt automatically mean you have cystoscopy REALLY isnt eeeks waiting for the appointment...my anxiety was overwhelming !!!!.. but it honestly wasn't horrible !!!! So..any concerns...push yourself to go through with it.

Good stuff! After having a robotic prostatectomy 14 yrs ago I've had 5 cystoscopys. The procedure itself wasn't traumatic because I knew what it entails. My urologist became suspicious after I was having UTI's. At first I wasn't informed what procedure needed to be done-just told I needed a check up. Some men don't want this type procedure unless under general anesthesia. I had a TURB 4 yrs ago under general anesthesia after a few lesions were discovered during a cystoscopy which were benign. Urination after the TURB was painful for approx. 2 days. Had I known I would've asked for an internal catheter after the TURB. I'm ok now. I've learned to empty my bladder completely to avoid UTI's.

My husband was 47 when he was diagnosed with high grade bladder cancer. The first thing the Drs said was do you smoke? and he never has. He had no risk factors. The first symptoms were blood in the urine and pain . He had a round of BCG but did not work for him. He had his bladder removed and a neo bladder made from a piece of bowel. He is cancer free after 17 years but having a neo bladder does change your life but he is happy he’s got it and has learned to live with it. Thanks Docs for some good information.🙂
