No matter how Caesar got his power, titles and honours, the fact remains that it was an incredibly sacrilegious crime that the "Liberators" had committed when you think about. They've murdered a sitting Roman consul in cold blood, and in most cowardly manner too. Then they all go around showing off their bloodied togas and dipping their hands in Caesar's blood. So much for restoring the virtues of the Roman Republic...

how would you actually get all of Caesars supporters? and even if you would manage to do that, what is stopping any random Centurion of Caesars many legions to proclaim himself the new leader of Caesars pro peoples cause? ...they had 2 options 1. the compromise 2. wait for Caesar to die of old age and hope the problem is fixable

That last quote at the end was really a great example of how most senators probably sees Caesar. Sure, none of them like him, but they still cannot deny Caesar’s genius.
