Troubleshooting the 89 40VRO outboard that will not idle good, so I adjusted the linkage, removed carbs, adjusted floats which one was upside down, saw a bolt in the reed plate, removed reed plates, thermostat missing, adjusted idle. It is still not 100% but runs so much better.

8:26 Linkage adjustment settings
16:00 remove carbs
26:15 Remove reed plate

I must be totally insane to pick up another boat project, but I guess it's in my blood. This one is a 1989 Lowe 189 (18' 9”) with a Johnson 40hp VRO loopcharged small gearcase and a standard boat trailer (not for pontoon). It was in a super hard spot to retrieve it from too, thankfully I own a Jeep Wrangler with big tires or I would have never gotten it out of where it was! The last boat I restored was a Bayliner weekender 24 foot, I converted it from an I/O to an outboard. Cleaned it up put a lot of hours into it then nobody in my family was interested so I sold it... So why did I buy another project? I already have a SeaDoo jet boat which I totally rebuilt the engine. I also have a Seadoo Jetski SP800 that I rebuilt the engine on too. Guess I am a glutton for punishment... NAH, I just love buying cheap shit and turning it into something. Something somebody else totally gave up on and left for junk. I get a good feeling inside, it's like a quest, so long as the project is not to the point of costing a fortune over what the worth of the thing is!

This keeps the links for all the parts more accurate. These I use and install on ALL my videos. I do not sell any of the items listed.

Wow!!!! Im just blown away with that bolt in the reed valves. I cant wait to see the "on-water" test. I hope you bring a back up motor just in case something goes awry.

Holy moly - did you say "mechanical basic skills" or "rocket engine skills"... 😳 I was under impression that I am pretty good (or lucky) fixing things, but I must say - your skills are quite impressive... my hat goes down for you 👍👍👍

That roller….was waiting for you to head to the 3-D printer. Best thing I bought years ago - paid for itself in no time. All kinds of uses around the house and shop. Don’t have to “pay the man” 😁

Hey Cheesy! So on my boat for the cover, I used three lengths of 3/4 PVC pipe, 6 - 3/4 PVC tees, and 12 - 3/4 PVC end caps. Just make "feet" out of the tees and end caps, and then make arches to the width of your boat. Cheap, and after the tarp is over the pipe frames, pretty darn weather tight!

Nice job replacing that $30 cam.. when I got my Evinrude 25 the dealer had covered the cam and cam follower with a bunch of marine Grease and told me to never let the serfaces get dry. Nice repair all the way around. Should probably do that for other people you can make a bundle of cash.. great video thanks

We always flipped the reeds, only thing that caught my eye was the engine looked a bit past level, it might have been level but on camera it looked past
