Garden NETTING leaves two birds needing RESCUE!

Entanglements are a very common callout for us here at Wildlife Aid. Foxes, hedgehogs deer and many other species often find themselves stuck, but, in this case, it was two garden birds that had found themselves in need of rescue.

These two birds - a great tit and sparrow - had become tangled in 'mist netting' - a very fine mesh used to keep animals away from plants - and were rushed into the centre for help.

Luckily, Simon was on hand to assist, and set to work cutting the frightened birds free...

Thank you for your support!

Thankyou for your kind work. Without you, those trapped birds would have perished from slow starvation or cat predation

This netting should be outlawed...if people are worried about wildlife eating fruits and veggies then plant extra for the animals...I live in the woods and I get plenty of wildlife eating things i plant...i put extra of everything and there's no shortage for me and it makes me feel good to know that I'm helping these animals to survive...and what's really nice is i get to see them ...nothing more beautiful then watching them eating a tomato or berry.😊

Aww poor wee birds. They were very lucky not to have constriction injuries. So happy to see them fly another day : - )

Four years ago we planted a plum tree. Every year the birds beat us to the plums. We thought of netting it but were concerned the birds would get trapped so never have. The standard joke is that the birds “are having plum pudding tonight”.

Netting is such a killer. I follow the channel of a lady bat rescuer in NZ, who often gets called out to take care of bats caught in fruit netting. Many times, the outcome is poor since the threads constrict blood flow in the wings and the subsequent necrosis leads to renal faliure.

Just makes you wonder how many poor birds get caught in these nets and perish. Great to see these two rescued and freed back to the wild.

Quite some time ago there was a comedian duo. They had a show that took place in a theatre. And whenever she left her seat, she regulary stepped on his feet. And he said very routinely: "Ow! Ow! Ow!"

Simon, you could have joined that show. You are equally experienced with your "Ow!"

I've never seen netting like this. That's some pretty sinister stuff, when it comes to wildlife, especially of the avian type. 😲
In a way, I suppose I can "see the idea" of it; people wanting to protect certain things in the garden, with a barely-visible net, as to not be bothered by it, thinking it will simply prevent or deter animals, from getting to whatever it's covering, but the consequences of this, becomes quite apparent in this video. Glad the little ones were fine, even if they were a little 'nibbly'. 🐤💢

Great job Simon. I gotta ask, how do you keep your glasses from fogging up when you wear a mask?

Quarantine must be getting to Simon’s brain, he just mistook that bird for a toad. 🤪

This looked like it took ages.
Well, this channel certainly taught me a lot of things to not do. Like get too fine netting

Thank you Simon. I hope those not to bright people who put up the netting took that netting down again.
