Very much like Catherine fell for Marjorie because of her mommy issues, Gary loved Selina because of his daddy issues. His father very much like Selina, kept bullying and disrespecting him and his daddy issues made him tolerate and immune to Selina's toxicity. He kept looking for validation from Selina which he never got from his father.
