Love to hear how articulate he is in real life and his perspective was brilliant. It did weave a theme with the conseuences but it still breaks my heart. To think gary waited for twenty years in prison and she didnt reach out to hin ever. Or even after he was out. Its jusf monstrous to think about in comparispn to how much he worshipped and and loved her. Out of all of her emotions she had in losing gary i bet the greatest was shame. And that shame probably compounded over the years and she was too afraid to ever face him knowing what she did. God it makes me angry she threw him away!! She really traded everything sbe had and eberybody for her ambition. Gary was her soul, im sure without him she grew even more monstrous. INCREDIBLE show

I love that Tony did what many great actors do; he created a backstory for Gary, even while in prison, off-camera.

In some sick way, I also believe that Selina even though she never admitted it was never happy without Gary. Tony Hale is just a tresure.

It's less than a minute, but Hale goes through the whole range of emotions when he mourns for Selina.
You can see the rage and hurt on his face...then he notices a flower arrangement Selina would've hated, and he remembers her. All of her, good and bad (mostly bad).

I completely agree with Hale's assessment. He didn't really "forgive" Selina, it was more Gary letting himself off the hook emotionally.
He can grieve her, but that's not the same thing as forgiveness.

Gary attending the funeral was for his closure.

Ok…. They’re forgiven. I hated the finale mainly for this reason, but to hear him explain it… Gary watched everything as it happened through the years and he accepted it all. He was right there along side her the entire time, thwarting his conscience in the name of Selena.

I think the ending was so refeshing coming from American tv. People are so attatched to perfectly packaged feel good endings. There's nothing interesting about that. It's more for our comfort and attachment to our binge routine that networks do this. I hate it. I think about this finale regularly. They turned a quick witted comedy into art with meaningful commentary on morality with that ending. I was blown away. The discomfort I felt as a viewer in itself was part of the ending. Genius writing, and way more interesting to reflect on.

Well, right, but in reality these are good and decent people who mostly end up sad and isolated. The ''reap what you sow'' principle doesn't really work in the real world...
