The Truth about Ulta 😳

As a former ulta employee I’m telling you right now you’re wasting your time doing dumpster diving there you’re not gonna make it many scores especially if the management is properly ran. Certain high price items like Dyson dryers or just expensive electronic items get sent back to a warehouse where I’m pretty sure they sell them to stores like TJ Maxx/winners/marshals. Everything else gets thoroughly destroyed and rendered unusable. Typically the items are either expired or items that were returned but used and can’t be for sale anymore.

EDIT: for all of you angry people who are just determined to go wandering for trash and use it on your bodies and getting angry at me, an EX Ulta employee🙄… Just consider this. I caught a woman trying to return a face cream from the brand PUR, upon me inspecting it I realized that it smelled/looked like mayonnaise. The woman had literally emptied out the contents of the jar at home, filled it with mayonnaise then tried to return it so she can get her money back while still keeping the product. Keep in mind that used products means that they left the store, they were opened and no one who works for Ulta has any idea what the hell happened to it or what was done to it. The mayonnaise story isn’t the only one. One time a lady tried to return a Clinique dramatic difference jelly that was actually lube. She got caught because of the smell. So imagine all the people who are smart enough to use some thing that doesn’t smell or use something that is not easily identifiable like mayonnaise? we don’t know what the fuck is in that crap! So not for nothing if you want skin care or make up there are plenty of affordable brands that you can use. Stop trying to live outside of your means before you get dermatitis or some shit!

I work for ulta and the products that we destroy are because they are returned and used therefore we can no longer sell them. This goes for makeup products and hair clips. Some items maybe be expired which is another reason we throw them out as it may cause skin issues. As much as we hate to throw them away it just comes down to keeping people safe and not using products people have already used.

do NOT go dumpster diving for products that are thrown out. they may be used, or expired. just don’t do it in general

Products that are still usable usually go to discount store like Marshalls or TJMaxx. What gets thrown away are returns that have been used, expired makeup, and non functional items, damaged items, and test products. What may look brand new is not. Please dont take things out of trash cans. Its not sanitary. What possess you to do that in the first place especially with items you will then apply to your face, lips, or hair is a mystery to me.

DON'T USE THOSE

There's a reason that it was thrown out. It's most likely EXPIRED or USED

Coming from a former Sephora employee and licesnsed esthetician, never dumpster dive and use those products. They're expired or used.

“The products should be given to a homeless shelter.”
Homeless people in need don’t need makeup. They need clothing, food, water, and other basic needs.

I used to work at Ulta. We did this if either the product was expired or looked to be tampered with or a used return. It's not perfect makeup that we just decide to throw away, it's mostly for the "safety" if others because I know I definitely wouldn't want to use someone else's returned makeup or buy makeup that someone stuck their finger in. And the stuff like the Dyson's the cords are cut for display and they probably just changed the display. That's the only thing that's wasteful.

9/10 all of those products have been returned and can’t be sold or given away. that’s completely unsanitary. it does make me sad to have to throw good products away but there’s not much else we can do.

It's expired, so I would cause facial disfigurement if used.

I can’t speak for these stores, but I used to work for CVS Pharmacy, and we had a similar rule about destroying things. If it couldn’t be returned to manufacturer for credit, and the scanner said to dispose of any item, we would have to make unusable for anyone dumpster diving. Barcodes got marked out/cut through, food was to be opened and dumped, and home items/electronics had to be tossed in without care or have their cords cut. I didn’t agree with it, but it was my job, so I did it.

I worked for Ulta. They’re a terrible company. Terrible.

They were probably thrown out for a reason, example if they are expired: if they are expired, giving it to employees or customers would cause them to have a bad break out.

And there’s also another reason: there is something wrong with the item.

The products are most likely expired or returned items. Meaning they were probably used by someone, just returned and they can't sell something that was used already.

A majority of beauty brands are being sued under the radar right now for using things in makeup that are extremely bad for you. NONE of it has made it to main stream and every waterproof mascara is being sued

I worked at Ulta for several months, and most of the things that employees had to damage were expired, or used by other people after being returned. Yes, it is very wasteful, but giving people these old or use products would’ve been a health concern.

Can’t get over the people recording themselves going through trash. That’s really a proud moment for them. Sad.

I don't work in this industry, but I do work in the grocery industry, specifically Winn-Dixie, and any returned food gets thrown out incase it was tampered with, but sometimes products with damaged boxes end up thrown out.
