I would definitely recommend reaching forward when you are first learning. the biggest way people fall while dropping in is by leaning back

Wisest advice for skateboarding:
"Start small and you won't get hurt!". Seems like the first thing everyone wants to do on a skateboard is kickflip and drop into massive bowls. You gotta stick to the basics until you got them down like breathing.
