Welcome to "Collie And The Gardener" We are just getting our growing season started, and what better way then to clean our beds and plant garden greens. I love kale, swiss chard, spinach and arugula. Growing them in pots or your garden will save you so much time when preparing dinner, because you just have to run out back with your scissors and you are ready to harvest! It is far cheaper then shopping at the store these days!

Using seeds is a less expensive way to start everything off. I also have the opportunity to try new greens we have never tried before. Growing a variety of kale or chard will allow you to enjoy a mixed blend of texture and color at your table. More importantly it protects your harvest from one varietal from developing disease. Some varieties are hardier in different climates. In Central Washington our spring starts pretty chilly, but our temperatures can soar to over 100 degrees in the height of summer. I choose a to different varieties that are lower risk for bolting in that extreme temperature difference.

I will have the links below, but I enjoy ordering from Territorial Seed Company and Baker Creek Hierloom Seeds (AKA RARE SEEDS).

Continue watching as this bed of deliciousness develops. We hope to share future recipes together!
