Best thing is to learn a bit of all . dont rely in just one software imo. im starting maya aswell and maybe in the future houdini. gotta keep up to date and use what fits the job.

Yes, I basically agree with you. The fact that Blender reached a proffessional level with 2.8 series and has seen increase in sponsorship and development must push Autodesk and other 3d software companies to keep their users happy by developing better their products, which, in the last 5 years were neglected, to say the least. Blender is slowly but steadily catching up, which makes me think what exactly the autodesk army of developers are doing on their workplace. If they dont start developing crazy new features, their leadin role is under a question mark in the next 10 years.

If autodesk starts fading away from industries then they will use their secret product 'Autodesk houdini'

I didn’t know about autodesk releasing indie versions. That’s very cool and I believe a step in the right direction if they want to maintain their place within the industry.

I can't understand why the 3dsMax modelling is still painful. there are a lot of versions and updates however so few thing are updated when it comes to modelling plus the sculpting and hard surface tools are still not there.

Up until now, I've voted for 3ds max and maya, but the current blender is already in competition with the two biggest software. The stars are fading under the light of the Blender. At 47, I'm becoming more active in blender, and I believe it's a good thing. Zbrush and Blender together, he's just got a lot of work to do.

7:14" in the next 5 to 15 years"
Well, I literally just started Blender again recently when I gave up 15 years ago. So my modeling is still from 15 (13 years to be exact..) years ago. I may give up for good because there's no way I can catch up now. Just one of my few regrets - giving up when I could've done something that I wanted to do since I was like 7 years old. Now I'm 30 and I do woodworking for 14 hours a day, 7 days a week for a living. It's beyond boring where I'm nearly asleep by the time I get off work each day.
If you're reading this: don't do what I did, go with Blender (easier now than ever) and stick with it! Even if you don't get a professional job, there's still freelancing and YouTube shortfilms which can bring in some revenue if you just STICK WITH IT. I can't stress that any further. I missed my chance. Don't be me.

Thank you for mentioning the indie version. They don't seem to advertise it to me, especially since I'm looking to pay for it.

I have been using 3ds max sense 1998 and i still use max 2013 sense it came out (Architectural viz) and im still using it today cause i cant afford the $2000+ / year subscription. But after seeing some blender stuff I might be changing teams... I am just so use to how Mental Ray Creates my image. so im hesitant to switch to cycle.

I used Maya and Max for a long time - switched to blender 2 years ago. I also used C4D professionally. What you don't mention are the usecases. Cinema4D is mainly used by Motion Graphic artists because of their easy to use mograph tools. Maya has one of the best animation tools out there and is easily expandable throughout productions so it can be integrated into big studios workflows. Max has some great modeling tools out of the box. Blender is now keeping up with the big software packages and some AddOns are miles ahead of what others can do. The reason is not price, the reason is accessability. A big studio has to train all of its employees if they eventually switch to blender entirely and thats why you'll never see blender on top of the game. It simply costs too much money to scratch all the decades of experience and modifications using Autodesk tools.

Can you do a video on free character creation software like Manuel Bastoni Lab? Also, can you do videos on software that are useful for colourizing black and white photos and videos?
