This feels like a demon trying and failing to understand what happiness is by forcefully probing the memories of the protagonist and recreating things.
First by replicating material things like toys and playing games, before becoming frustrated and giving up when it doesn't get the results it wants.
Then by conjuring whatever the protagonist is imagining and turning it up to 11, getting frustrated again and forcing a happy face mask on the protagonist.
Finally, by recreating a memory but misunderstanding key points. And again, getting irritated that it isn't grasping happiness and taking it out on the protagonist.

It doesn't understand that too much noise and flashing lights causes unhappiness. It misreads fear and death as part of fun. What few smiles it manages to coax out of the protagonist is fleeting. And judging by the many, many identical corpses, it has tried so many times to replicate happiness. The closes it has come to success seems to be at the very end, when the protagonist is melted and smiling blissfully, probably lobotomised and unable to do anything other than the basest brain chemistry it believes happiness is.

im positive this is about pass childhood truama and coping with them..Like getting his toys back, fighting off that bully and other things. I believe its him trying to find happiness in his mental suffering. Like how he killed off that bunny that was causing pain..and the dog towards the end. I am pretty sure this is all coping with truama and depression he got in his child hood. Similar to how people make fantasy worlds to distract from the reality. I can be wrong but I think that is what this is. Espeically when he wakes up and the being has him go back to bed, maybe like a supersticious parent, or controlling parents.

There is a part where he gets lost and starts crying. The smilely face phased him back to where the dog is almost like helping. I wonder if he is taking happy pills or something. Maybe it either wore off or it stopped working. Who knows?

Also towards the end it seems like he was stuck in his own mind, like stuck in his own way of thinking he wishes to break out of- which does back up the coping thing. Maybe as well that he finds happiness but it gets ruined.

This would be a beautiful game to demonstrate the cruelty of a shitty childhood if its that. :)
