Hey, love this video. As someone who did a few month long trips in Europe I’d like to add some insight. You can probably wear tshirts and athleisure in Berlin, Germany and Parts of London, northern countries (Actually- absolutely because people wear sporty casual clothes there. But! Staying monochromatic is key. Don’t dress up in Berlin and Nordic countries. They just don’t dress up. It’s more about looking edgy like Brooklyn. However in France, Italy, Spain? People dress up classically even to go to the park. Little girls wear beautiful sundresses with ribbons, ladies do their hair, and wear maxi sundresses. Men are wearing plain shirts and trousers. So yes, make an effort to look elegant everyday. I still was comfortable. I wore linen pants, a roll up straw hat on days I needed sun protection. But to be honest. Carry your leggings. Just only wear black solids. I just would pair it with a white button down shirt over a sweatshirt. Lastly, I absolutely wear my Yankke hat. So do they. It’s the one acceptable baseball hat you do see. It’s considered fashionable in London and most northern countries. So you will see them. So to sum it up- it depends on the countries. Sporty countries? Black leggings, black tee ok. Dressy countries? No flip flops, stick with monochrome /neutral outfits.

Jeans were invented in France and they are very proud of that. Tons of Europeans wear jeans. NOT jean shorts that are to SHORT but they love denim.

I’m in Spain currently, was in Paris, Barcelona, Valencia and now am in Madrid. Honestly, every local is wearing colorful clothes, athletic clothes, short shorts, denim shorts. It’s just us Americans trying to blend in that are wearing low key neutrals, me included 😂. In my experience so far, everyone dressed like we do in LA, no one cares and no one is judging or paying attention. Wear what makes you feel good. You are traveling, you need to feel comfortable and like yourself. 💜

I live in UK. Quite a lot of the items you have listed are quite commonly worn here to be honest. You may stand out with a backpack though, but then again, you go to one of the university towns you’ll fit right in with your backpack 😊

I’ve been recently in Spain and there they like dressing very colorful. Here in South America we love too. But other countries in Europe are more conservative.

I just went all over Italy for 3 weeks and I saw a lot of locals in American sports gear. I also saw a lot of shops that sold it. But, I still agree with you and think it’s best to leave our sports gear at home.

I find it really funny what Americans think you should wear in Europe. I'm from Munich in Germany and I travel to other European countries often. A lot of what I've just heard isn't true at all. Of course we wear sneakers, whether athletic or plain white. Of course we wear baseball caps and yes, we also carry backpacks. And we wear leggings! And flip-flops! High heels too. It all depends on the occasion you're wearing something. Sneakers to the office are totally fine, leggings not. Flip-flops in the evening? Better not, do prefer chic sandals or high heels. In our free time we often wear denim, mostly jeans, but also shirts, skirts or dresses made of denim. So: Not everything that has been reported here is true. And it very much depends in which European country you are in.

Love this video. I just got back from Japan and wow, we as Americans are LOUD! We draw attention to ourselves just with the volume of our voices.

Hi Dana! You are 100% correct! I just got back from Portugal and I notice the way people dressed were very classy but simple. Great video 💕

The showing less skin thing does a complete 180 when you get to the beach, pool or sauna.

Everything you mentioned is so true! I lived in Europe for 5 years as a military spouse and even the military advised us to blend in and not make yourself a target. I loved Europe and never had any issues.❤

In Europe, athletic leisure or Lulu Lemon is worn for exercise, but not on the street

Black, white, grey and navy is my standard European color palette. I love the look of tan/cream, but it looks terrible on me. Leggings are only for under dresses for warmth during the winter. For summer, linen and cotton fabrics rule and look much better than hot polyester. Wide leg or loose fitting denim jeans are popular. And I always wear trench coats for the cooler months. I know puffer coats pack easily but yep, total tourist.

On our flight home from Paris, a young lady welcomed me to the US and wished me a good trip. 😆 That’s when I knew I’d nailed it fashion-wise. I agree with everything you mentioned.

Pro tip: I usually wear a pair of shoes and maybe pack 1. Then I buy shoes when I get to Europe. I feel like it’s so fun to get styles that are popular where I’m going, AND I feel like options for comfortable walking shoes are much better.

I’ve lived in Europe for 8 years ( UK, Italy, France, Portugal) and agree with everything you’ve said. We can spot Americans from a mile away primarily due to flip flops and leggings LOL and the American young girls always showing an obscene amount of skin. European girls show a lot less skin and work out gear is literally only worn inside of a gym there. Agree on the heels too, I used to be one of those ppl to bring heels on my trips and never worn them. Everything is just much more effortless and classy in Europe in my opinion.

I have not been to London but in Spain and Italy, I think you can wear just t-shirts and jeans during the day. The locals look the same

This video is spot on, I am French living in SoCal and do not wear the same things in LA and Paris. I love my at leisure here but never wear it in France except lounging at home.

I tottaly agree with your tips. Ladies tend to forget that leggings are not pants. They are just leggings. Save it for gym. As per colour I have to admit that from all European cities I visited in the past Milan stood up, big time. Not only among young but also older woman. So much colour and heels😉 Thank you for such a great video ❤

Just got back from Italy. Your points are correct! I did see some locals wearing New Balance retro sneakers. I was still happy wearing my Dr. Scholls tennis shoes like you suggested. I enjoyed my beige Tevas. I know they gave me away as tourist, but they were comfortable and sturdy for all of the active walking touring we did.

This is an interesting topic! I think the most important part is safety and not sticking out or flaunting expensive bags, shoes, etc
