Our Gear:
We travel with a Microsoft Surface everywhere we go. I edit my videos on it & use it to backup my pictures and vides while we travel. It’s light and the best travel laptop on the market in my opinion.

We use Sony Alpha series cameras to film our videos. They are compact so you don’t look like a super tourist when you take great pictures and videos while you travel.

We use Manfrotto Tripods. They are compact, travel well, and honestly I would not use another tripod for my nice cameras.

Travel Plug that works in pretty much any country & has four USB ports. A must for any traveler.

Want to grab some great gear? We have used Osprey Packs for years & swear by them. Check them out here

Need some clothing for your next adventure? Patagonia has some pretty good stuff for all kinds of travelers.

As somebody who lives in South Africa, when we go to the local national parks, I see SO MANY tourists dressing inappropriately, this video is 100% accurate and exactly the kind of things that you need to do when you're in the bush(as we call it). I have seen so many youtubers even *cough Desi Perkins cough* dressing like you're heading to a PR event meanwhile you're actually sweating in the bush and the rest of us are laughing at you! Please take this couple's advice - its functional.

Main takeaways - wear khakis, long sleeves, no ball caps but large brimmed safari type hats, bring sunscreen & bug repellent, dress in layers and not heavy clothes! Thanks for posting!

I once took my prescription sunglasses out on safari and left my regular glasses at the accommodation, which became a pain when the sun inevitably set around 6pm (in Malawi)... this meant that I had to choose between no glasses (no vision), or sunglasses in the dark (no vision)... this probably won't affect most people, but worth keeping in mind!

I was actually thinking about wearing Dockers, my university sweatshirt & a baseball hat. This video crushed my hopes & dreams.

I now watched like 20 vids from wolter in a row and i just love how positive he is, even in the ‚don’ts-videos‘. Keep up your good work wolter!

It’s good to remember that in Southern Africa it does get very cold in early early morning on winter time.
I was in South Africa in April and it was cold indeed when we left for the game drive at dawn. We were wearing two jackets plus the blanket provided by the ranger.
But by late morning it was already warm. So dressing in layers is essential.
Great videos as always, congratulations

Your kids are so lucky growing up traveling around the world. Heading to Italy, Malta and Greece next spring. Learned a lot from your videos to help make the trip smooth sailing, especially about Rome!

Great video! We locals always chuckle at tourists who come to South Africa and obviously went all out on Safari gear and only packed that while walking the streets of Cape Town etc. So yes, pack a set or so of your "normal" clothes when you visit Africa and plan to go to the cities unless you really want to stand out from the crowd.

good advice..when traveling around towns, you can leave the safari gear back at the hotel or tented camp. Out there wearing earth tones (and those zip on/off shorts/pants) are the best. And support good animal conservation.

Glad you know about the buck naked shorts. True, real comfortable and wash / dry quick! Maybe dry on the fly pants?
Armachillo didn’t make a difference to me, but the shirts were easy care.
Enjoy Africa!
