This is exactly what I am planning to do. I have a 1 car detached garage that I plan on converting into my studio sometime in the next year. Looking forward to the free course to give me some ideas including ventilation

The new house I'm moving into in a few months has something even better: a room underneath an (attached) garage, with not only concrete floor, but also concrete walls and ceiling. Needless to say, I immediately saw the potential for building music rehearsal room! It also got decent 13' x 23' dimensions as well, although the ceiling is a little low (just over 7').

I was wondering though. Since the concrete floor is basically the foundation for the whole house, even if concrete is very dense and can absorb quite a lot of vibrations, I'm still a bit worried that the low frequencies, most importantly the kick drum, and bass guitar amp, might still vibrate through the whole house. I'm thinking about decoupling the floor from the actual concrete, but since I've got limited room height to begin with, doing a floating floor isn't really an option. I really need to maximize the vertical space as much as possible.

Is there some sort of membrane or whatnot that I can put underneath the floor that isn't taking much space but would greatly reduce the amount of vibrations the concrete floor would need to absorb? What kind of floor would you recommend to begin with? Note that for the walls, I'm still doing the double walls system (concrete -> insulation -> 1" air gap -> wood studs with insulation -> two layers of 5/8" drywall)

Great videos! Glad I found you! I'm moving to a new garage studio. The room is on a concrete slab, and has concrete block walls with an exposed metal roof. He's building walls with regular insulation and the 1"air gap as you mentioned. My main question is what to do with the ceiling? He typically likes to do drop ceiling with standard insulation batting above it, but should I ask him to use an insulation that is thicker and made for reducing sound transfer, or should I ask him to do drywall on the ceiling? I'm not worried about sound traveling out of the space, but more concerned with sound coming in, like truck noise, etc.
