I don’t know. Maybe because I didnt watch the trailer, I could fully invest in Skye’s storyline that I feel everything works? I felt the tension and stress, and got scared at all the jumpscares because I could feel what Skye is going through. Enjoyed it more than Smile. The ending is, for me, is effective.

The opening scene was perfectly crafted. I want a “prequel” with Kyle Gallners character crafting his plan on beating the curse. He had the right idea on how to beat it

I agree with Dan. The jump scares in this movie get tiresome just like they did in the first film. Plus there is some loud audio noise that pairs with the jump scares which is never original. I am just not into these movies as other people are. But Naomi Scott was great in this movie.

I have to respectfully disagree with your take. This is one of the best sequels made in recent years. The trailer looked like a watered down sell out version of the first one. The actual movie did not disappoint and committed to topping the first one. Kudos to the filmmaker and the studio 👏👏👏👏👏

Wow I completely disagree with your review here (which is rare). I was not a big fan of the first Smile but I was shocked by how well this one worked for me. I thought it was way more effective than the first film. The jumps scares were more creative and actually got me good a few times, and overall I found the story more engaging. A lot of that can be credited to Naomi’s phenomenal performance, but also felt like the script was tighter and the scares were more creative/memorable. Also the music and cinematography stepped up a notch in my opinion as well. A few really impressive long takes which I loved.

Overall I found this one to be one of the rare occasions when a sequel surpasses the original. The first one did a good job introducing the concept, but this one perfected it.

I didn’t personally find all the scares to be run-of-the-mill jump and audio scares, I thought a few of them were pretty creative, especially the scene with the dancers in her apartment. Like the sister’s head in the first film though, it’s unfortunate that the trailer spoiled this moment. AND spoiled the climax of the opening scene.

I’m a lover of horror and often a harsh critic, so I’m surprised I enjoyed this film a lot more than you did haha. I think the story from the perspective of a pop star struggling with the pressures of fame deserves some credit for originality as well. That being said, always happy to hear your thoughts Dan! And I agree, Naomi Scott’s performance is the biggest takeaway from this movie.

Good for her, she proved she's a good actress. But the story still seems very basic and repetitive. Thank you Dan, for your honest opinion. everyone else seems to like this movie but mostly because of her performance? I think this movie will do just ok at the box office.

I personally agree with most of this review, it dragged with mostly just cheap jump scares. The only creepy part (keeping it very vague) I liked was the t-shirt on floor segment, but everything else was forgettable even though I just watched it 8 hours ago. The main actress did a great job though.

The opening sequence was so tense and well done I loved it. Really bummed out that the rest of the movie felt like it was made by a totally different team. Overall I definitely thought the first was stronger. Alot of the movie was giving me flashbacks to "Trap" . Was it a movie or a commercial for Naomi Scott's music (and Voss water 😂) Also, am I crazy or did the monster look better in the first film?
