James Hardie Siding Joint Flashing | Best Practices

Joint flashing: James Hardie recommends that a slip sheet (joint flashing) is installed behind each butt joint in the siding.

This is a 6” wide piece of weather-resistive material to make sure that no water gets through.

Proper Hardieplank Siding Joint Flashing

1. Good: Roofing Felt Paper
2. Better: House wrap
3. Best: Joint Flash

Always demand the BEST, it’s worth the extra cost!

Great videos. Would like to see one on proper flashing methods above windows when installing Hardie board/batten and lap siding.

30lb felt works just fine. Several houses I did over 40 years ago. Zero issues

I use EPDM scraps I got from a fellow putting full membrane roof over mobile homes. Rated for 30 years direct exposure to UV. Also slit house wrap and tuck EPDM under in critical areas such as downspout dumping nearby or high wind driven rain.
