ANKI VS QUIZLET (or is there something better...)

Let's talk about Anki vs Quizlet, because when you're talking about the best flashcard app or the best spaced repetition app, these are the two most popular names that come to mind. The Anki flashcards app has been around for a long time and many medical students, including ourselves, swear by its learning potential. Quizlet flashcards have also been around for a while, and for many students it has really brought the fun back to learning. So in this video we are going to go over the pros and cons of the Quizlet app and Anki flashcards review style.

🙏 Thanks for watching!

I am so glad you said that Quizlet has a better interface. Sometimes people act like they don't even know what a nice interface is...

Update for the Video: Anki wins, because Quizlet decided to be paid

Anki is a god send. I’m taking Gen Chem 1, so there’s a lot of memorization. Molecular numbers, polyatomic compounds, acid baking, it’s so easy to just throw in a hand full of examples to study on Anki before I start learning for the day

Wow! Great video! I definitely prefer Quizlet's user-friendly interface, but because of the spaced repetition it seems like I should give Anki another try.

Personally I just love Anki. I have discovered it a bit over a week ago and have already memorized about 2600 flashcards (of course it is not a long term result yet but I have never studied so efficiently before). Also the plain design helps to study without distraction. You just see immediatly how many cardsyou have to study and what folders you've got. No better way to focus and keep a good overview. And the add-ons allow you to personalize it, so you can gamify the experience just as you like. I'm not a fan of the games shown in the quizlet demonstration for example, but I downloaded an add on for Anki so I see a cute puppie every now and then and it plays music. Now I'm looking forward to studying more cards to see my puppie or grow my Pokemon

I went with Quizlet as there are several existing flashcards sets already on the platform for my CFA Level 2 studies.

The basic rules of flashcards is not to memorize material that you don’t yet understand. For actual learning, it’s better to use Tony Buzan’s organic learning method with hand-drawn mind maps and overview / preview / inview / review.

I currently have Quizlet and the spaced repetition feature works just fine. It's even better now because it allows me to study the information I'm not familiar with more often just like Anki. Perhaps at the time of this video, Quizlet was just upgrading their study methods, down for maintenance, etc.

I really loved using Quizlet (apart from having to re-record every time when making the flashcards because the audio was so bad). However I was so annoyed when they announced they were going to stop the long-term learning! There is just no point in me using it any more, a great shame 😔

Awesome video. I think you're right that anki is probably better, but I'm a dumb dumb and Quizlet makes it so easy for me to navigate through. Anki on the other hand, I just feel stuck trying to figure out how to use it to it's full potential which in turn causes me to learn at a much slower pace.

Ugh - if Quizlet utilized the SRS methodology, it would be my go to....

I'm a language learner not a med student and I wouldn't have thought that I'd ever end up watching med student videos but I do because we both do a lot of studying. For cramming I like active recall but over time (spaced repetition) I hate it. I'm quite happy reading sentences on an Anki card and if I can understand it then just moving on. I kind of feel sorry for med students who are forced to actively recall all the information for tests etc. It makes sense that passive understanding just wouldn't cut it as a doctor. I wonder if doctors are really natural foreign language learning machines in disguise?
