Every early November I filled the bathtub with hot water and play Prof. Hoppe’s lecture to make for the most rewarding hour of the year.

Best quote: 'Latin Christendom...[is] closer to the idea of social perfection than anything that followed it and, in particular, the present democratic order. Not surprisingly, this is also the very period in Western history that our current, godless, democratic rulers and their court historians have chosen to portray in the darkest of terms.'

the philosophy of science section from 21:30 is absolutely spot on. Hoppe's speech is always a highlight, but I'd say he smashed it this year.

There's never been a better time for Hoppe to come out of the shadows.

Most people commenting here criticising Hoppe are idiots, who do not grasp a word of what he is saying. Scroll down the comment section to laugh hard. Damn, Hoppe is far ahead of his time.

May well be the greatest talk for Liberty.
"I was fed lies all my life, yet one look at the light burned through all of it — a tender and warm ray that was Truth, a gentle embrace of irrepressible strength." Enzo Lepassant, 2024

Restore the natural order, so to speak.

HHH is great as usual and this "torture" was well taken! At 40:27 he poses the all important question: _"Why this most unfavourable treatment in particular of the Middle Ages?"_ However much I'd like to believe his answer (dislike of a stateless society), I don't believe this to be true. I fear that said hostility is just plain and simple anti-Catholicism. It's part of the _"Middle Ages bad, Crusades bad, Inquisition bad!"_ litany of either the Enlightenment or Protestant school of post-Reformation "gnosis, " historically promoted by Judeo-Calvinist writers, many of the more influential ones from the US.

27:46 the problem is that while " the ideal of social perfection" is different for different groups.
a) Libertarians: "peace", as stated.
b) non-libertarian religious conservatives: "adherence to the word of god" (as Hoppe meant, I think)
c) non-libertarians, non-religious conservatives: "economic sustainability" (I guess)
d) left: "equality" (that's to say, forced equality of outcome, down to the lowest common denominator; mediocrity; tall poppy syndrome)
e) right" (the few actual nazis, fascists, "alt-right" etc, all revolucionary, collectivist, big state socialists): varies. "Racial purity" and "estrict adherence to law and order in a police state" are some...

Indeed the first three can coexist, while I believe the last two are incompatible and must have their own countries, to avoid oppression of one group by the other or civil war...

Regarding the last 6 Commandments as guide to a perfect society, I think George Carlin's reduction of them to 2 Commandments (with one plus) would fit better Ocam's razor.

On the libel commandment. This is crucial because in a free society there being no right to intellectual property or copyright nor to control what others say then the only instance where a speech act may be said to be aggressive or initiatory of the use of force is when its ultimate consequence is indeed an unjust application of punishment. False witness therefore entails an act of aggression whenever it results in the imposition of a punitive measure based on such false witness.
