In this piano lesson, I debunk the confusion between the major blues scale and minor blues scale.

Many people get confused between the major and minor blues scales. Many people don't realise there's such thing as a major blues scale.

In this video, I show you the differences between the two scales, how to construct each one and I also show you an interesting relationship between them.

If you have any questions, just drop a comment below :)

excellent tutorial, I never thought about playing the relative minor over a major scale, this is going to help my guitar playing immensely as well, thanks for sharing

That's a good tip about playing the relative minor blues scale over the top of the major scale as it is a lot easier to remember just the one scale especially while improvising.

This helps explain the relative major and minor keys. It is helpful to be able to understand the difference in order to understand the feel you’re targettong

Hey man you gotta add the 2 and the (flat) seventh for the full blues scale. This video just teaches mixing major and minor pentatonic. Which is a good first step

Clearest explanation I could find anywhere. The major to relative minor equivalence insight is very helpful. Thank you,

This was so helpful to help understand by first stating the “bare nessecities” notes of the PENTATONIC SCALES!!

I really liked where you explained the formula of the blues scale in one of your videos. The 3 2 1 1 3 2 . I wish you could have used this technique in this video as well for the major scale. Thanks!

This video is gonna be so useful for me - I'm learning a piece from the ABRSM Jazz Piano Pieces Grade 1 book and there are 12 bars left open for soloing, I'll be using what I've learned here to construct my solo :) Thanks a lot Simon, especially for that tip on the relative minor scale!
