In the 1980s, L-tryptophan was a very popular dietary supplement. However, its over-the-counter sale was banned in 1989, after a manufacturing error by one of the world’s five L-tryptophan producers. The manufacturing error was identified and corrected relatively quickly, and there have been no reports of issues in years.

A versatile amino acid, L-tryptophan is often an effective treatment for depression, insomnia, and premenstrual mood changes (premenstrual dysphoric disorder).

I took 200 mg last week. During the night my chest and heart were so painful that I thought I was going to have an heart attack. To use with great precaution! On the bottle was mention 2 pills of 200 mg. Perhaps I would have had a heart attack if I took 2 pills!
