I have seen this first hand. Have an aunt that suddenly stopped breathing, and had no pulse. I work in the medical field, and have training performing CPR. Worked on her for a good 6 minutes before paramedic showed up. They started working on her, and she gasped sitting up like waking from a nightmare. Scared the paramedics and me. Even they swore she was dead.

This happened to me. Died at the hospital, 20 years ago. Was at a doctor appt when I had a thyroid storm and a heart rate of atrial fibrillation, which is not a sustainable heart rhythm. Keeled right over and there was a stretcher outside the door and the ER was literally the next room down the hall. They wheeled me right in and shocked me back, and diagnosed me with hyperthyroid disorder. I woke up on the table filled with IVs and with a leads on me to a heart monitor. I got up and ripped them all out and said I gotta get outta here, I have a doctors appointment. They told me what happened and I got it treated. Been fine ever since and I didn’t lose a beat, it’s like a switch got shut off and then turned on back again, never saw the light and never lost a memory, just walked right out and went back to business as usual. I still praise God for the good doctors and them saving me. I am a stronger in my faith than ever for this. 😂 A few years later I became an EMT so I could save others the way the good medical staff saved me. Thank you Jesus! ❤

For those who don't know - Lazarus is a character in the bible, the brother of two sisters. And one day he died, but Jesus our Almighty Savior brang him back to life

Lazarus syndrome was believed to be a lot more common before medical interventions like the stethoscope because it was harder to tell if a person was clinically dead. This led to people unintentionally being buried alive and was a common enough problem that bells were sometimes hung from the headstone with a rope going into the coffin so that the occupant woke up they could ring the bell to let the grave keepers know they weren't dead after all.

Im sure sterling meant to refer to "Mati Suri" not "matty suri". Mati means dead in malay/indonesian, and mati suri is basically apparent death, but you wake up afterwards

This is why after burials families used to sit next to the grave to listen if the body woke up hence the term ‘wake’ for a funeral gathering

Also the body wud get a string attached to a bell so if they woke up after being buried they can ring the bell hence ‘saved by the bell’
