Honda just detailed their new Solid State Battery Production Line. Here's the latest news coming out of Japan.

#solidstate #battery #honda #EV

Honda Motor Co., Ltd. today unveiled the demonstration production line for all-solid-state batteries, which is being developed independently by Honda toward mass production. The line was constructed on the property of Honda R&D Co., Ltd. (Sakura), located in Sakura City, Tochigi Prefecture, Japan. While conducting technical verification to establish a mass production process on this demonstration line, Honda will determine the basic specifications of the battery cells, with an aim to begin applying its all-solid-state batteries to electrified models that will be introduced to market in the second half of the 2020s.

Japanese automakers have been talking solid state batteries for more than 10 years. I will believe it when there is an actual car I can buy.

Solid state batteries look like they are still a science project.

Either Honda, Toyota or Nissan. I really hope Japan can do it!

Glad to see it. Performance is attractive but my turnoffs for evs is battery degradation and cost. Hopefully Honda can solve my barriers :)

as long as they are not using POS LG battery, I am all for it

Apparently Japan found a rich reserve of cobalt and other rare earth minerals required for battery production in the southern sea bed. Give it all to Honda and accelerate production! 😂

I've worked in the battery industry for the past ~20-years, and yes, solid-state batteries are the holy grail and golden goose of batteries and will be the standard in the next 3-7 years, and will quickly eliminate combustion oil engines when they arrive. Solid-state batts. EV's with silicon anodes, sulfur-coated cathodes will get: 500-1000 miles range, charge in 5-10 minutes, last 1, 000, 000 miles and perform better than oil combustion engines, in every way as solid state requires no heating and cooling strips, very small BMS, and are superior to liquid-electrolyte batteries, in virtually every way. Hydrogen is DOA, they make no sense, in many ways.

I see no reason to buy EVs from companies that didn't buy the EV idea and have no experience in this area.

i get that the ev market is still maturing, but, batteries should be upgradeable imo

Range is not that much of an issue if you can charge under 5 mins. That should be the goal

when can we expect this battery in the accord hybrid?

Go Honda! I think Chery auto also has a solid state assembly line under construction.

Imagine slim smartphones with a 10Ah battery. Drones will benifit a lot as weight is a primary factor there

Solid state cann't be mass produced yet, not by the Chinese, Toyota or Honda. In 2026they, Toyota, will start with a small batch solid state batteries for a lexus plugin.

Also including solid state batteries for self-charging hybrids like the Toyota RAV4 hybrid
