I’m glad they’re still manufacturing the UV-5R model line of their product. I just got the TD-H3 GMRS kit on Amazon for $40, but I have a knack for Baofeng so I’ll pick this up eventually to utilize all of my UV-5R accessories as well!

thanks for the info, saw these were $20 each so bought two. Not a ham guy, hoping I didn't buy a complex mess of a radio to use. I know there are radios that are far easier to use, but $40 for a pair? I'll figure it out

I just picked up two UV-5G Pros. They were delivered today. I’m completely uneducated on how these work and am doing as much research as possible. I just filed the application and paid the $35 for my GMRS License today. Can I take these as they sit and use them (obviously once I have my license) to communicate with a buddy via one of the GMRS channels that are pre-programmed? Or are there local frequencies that I need to find and program into my radio? Are these radios locked? I’ve read that they had to be “unlocked” or “jail broken” before you could start programming your own stuff. Please bare with me 😅🤣

To be honest I am trying to get my FCC GMRS application done but I cannot get them to help me pay the fee on line. I’ve called a few times and left messages (yet to get a return call) and sent e-mails asking for help. One e-mail was returned telling me to go to the web site… done that, no luck.

None of these radios seem to be able to receive the air band correctly. They are trying to receive AM frequencies with 8.33 KHZ spacing on a chip designed to receive FM signals. Reality says add the circuitry to receive AM and stop trying to fool people.

Question: why not get your own style instead of poorly copying NotARubicon channel? Not subscribing.
