I honestly think this series is some of your best video work and it's a damn shame it gets so few views. I've never even watched this show and you present it so carefully and thoughtfully. Thank you for posting!

A well thought out perspective. Another way of looking at the futility of Lap's arguments, no matter how vociferous, is that it reflects Yang's future struggles with the Alliance government. He sees how intransigently dysfunctional it is, but can do nothing to fix it. He cannot help but also see how Reinhard is successful in transforming the Empire into something more equitable and just, but it was done in a way that would violate the democratic principles that Yang holds dear. He is thus left as impotent as Lap was.

I think I'll always prefer the movie version because of how it handles Lap. As much as I can appreciate a cautionary tale, the death of a character I actually care about will always leave a stronger impact on me. That being said, this video has made me appreciate the first two episodes a lot more.

Can’t wait for you to get into the show. Not only is it the best anime ever, it’s one the best shows period.

I am so Excited!! I love your perspectives. This show was made for analytical minds such as you! I really like the extra importance of Lap in the movie and the unspoken scenes with music are some of the best cinematography I've seen in animation.

New viewer here: amazing vid! I'm a massive fan of the LoGH novels but have yet to get into the OVA/movies, so thank you for explaining the differences between the original two episodes and the 1993 film!

Fantastic, man. Really briiliant. I wondered how you'd handle the remake elements.

I think the movie is a much better intro to the series, so it has a purpose

Could be worse. It could be like Tenchi Muyo, where nothing is canon...until the first TV series does a mini-arc that confirms everything as canon, even though it itself is not canon.

Wow, based on that summary, it seems that The Man Who Shot Liberty Valence has not aged well after 2016. Newsmen choosing to tell stories instead of the truth isn't some moral dilemma about why John Ford films are good. At least not anymore.
