Covering a friends bill once or twice is fine - be a good friend. But 3, 5, 10 times is being taken advantage of by so-called friends. I don't mind covering an occasional meal, but I'm not going to subsidize your lifestyle.

Different situation... Our group had one person that would show up late EVERY time. I got tired of waiting for them, and went ahead inside the venue, placed my order, got my food and ate. Other people started doing this, and we eventually quit letting Lady Late know our plans.

My friend group always paid individually and threw in nice amounts for the tip. This was some years back when cash was a thing. Then I noticed once that one would gather all the tips together and only pretend to add to it. I checked the amount and sure enough our nice big tip turned into a skimpy one thanks to her. I topped it up since it wasn't the server's fault and mentioned it to the others. Any time we went for lunch after that we gave the tip when paying the bill instead of accumulating it on the table. If she wanted to be that person then she could own it instead of dragging us down with her.
