Adjuster TV Show with Geoffrey Conrad | How to Get on the First Call List

In this episode, Matt from Adjuster TV interviews Geoffrey Conrad, Director of Training for Crawford & Company, to explore how independent adjusters can land on the coveted "First Call List" and excel in their careers. The First Call List is real and crucial, and Geoffrey shares insights on how adjusters can position themselves to be among the first deployed when a storm hits.

Key Discussion Points:

The First Call List: Geoffrey explains that being on this list is about more than just technical skills. Adjusters who demonstrate reliability, professionalism, and genuine care for the customer rise to the top. It's essential to invest in yourself and take advantage of training opportunities to increase your chances of getting called first.

Training and Development: Crawford & Company is committed to preparing adjusters through extensive training programs. Geoffrey highlights the importance of mastering Xactimate, understanding policy, and learning to navigate different carrier systems. Crawford’s training programs cover these areas and more, ensuring adjusters are fully prepared before deployment.

What Makes a Great Adjuster: According to Geoffrey, the best adjusters are not just fast but thorough. They care about the claims process and the customer experience. Being able to communicate effectively and show empathy is just as important as understanding the technical aspects of adjusting.

Challenges in the Industry: One of the biggest challenges for adjusters, especially veterans, is adapting to new technologies. Tools like hover reports and virtual inspections are changing the landscape of the industry, and adjusters who embrace these tools will have a significant advantage.

Crawford’s Corporate Culture: Geoffrey talks about Crawford’s strong focus on creating long-term relationships with their adjusters. Through continuous education, certifications, and support, Crawford ensures that adjusters stay sharp and ready for deployment, even during slow periods.

The Future of Claims Handling: Geoffrey and Matt discuss how technology, like LIDAR and other tools, will continue to improve efficiency in claims handling. However, Geoffrey believes there will always be a need for skilled field adjusters, especially for large or complex losses where personal interaction is essential.

Training and Certification: Geoffrey encourages adjusters to pursue certifications like Xactimate Level 2, as these can help them stand out and get more work. Investing in training is a crucial part of building a successful career as an adjuster.

Conrad is a great trainer and will forever be who taught me what a ESX file is so he gets thanks from me on a regular basis. He, as a trainer, took my Skype call while I was deployed, and took time out of his morning to help me get a claim closed when no one else had the time. Great to see Conrad on the show. I do hope to work with him again!

This podcast gives me so much hope about this career change. I'm just starting out and I was a little nervous about finding a position as a non experienced adjuster. I"m currently researching some information on how to present myself in an interview as a new adjuster. Thank You for this show.

I'm newly licensed and after listening to Conrad, he is the type of person I would love to learn from. Absolutely love what you did for your brother!

Good to see this podcast. Geoffrey seems like a great person. I grew up in Slidell and moved out of state a couple years ago. I have to reach out to Crawford soon!

This was a very informative interview. I have just attained my Florida claims adjuster license along with a SC license. This is new for me. I'm coming from 20 years of Supply Chain and time from the US Navy. I have been applying for different firms and became a member of NACA yesterday. I want to do my best at the job so I will be watching your other videos also. How would I go about getting hired?

Great episode! Good people and great minds just flowing. I recently found this channel and enjoying the content. Working towards (adjuster license testing soon) changing from cleaning/restoration industry to adjusting. It seems like a natural evolution. Does having multiple years of experience as well as certifications, help in the world of adjusting? Maybe I should ask if it would be a benefit to me?

I ran into this video. Im not sure how.
I'm hoping that there will be an adjuster out there that is doing this work and wouldn't mind answering my questions. I am 47. No experience at all in this. Limited funds to start. I live near Fort Worth, and am willing to devote whatever time is necessary as long as I will be able to provide for my wife and daughter. Is this something that you think I can do?

How do you get continue education with Crawford. I just got my license and on the roster. However, I have no idea what I'm doing. I'm a little leery about purchasing just any training course.

As a diy adjuster, is there any online ccurses you would recommend for auto 101 or property 101.

Just starting to try and get my license in michigan, cannot find any study links that would help with any of the questions on the online pretest questions, like anything about coverage type a, b, c. Where would you/someone suggest to which direction I should head?

Not sure if this is the right place to ask, but what are the chances of getting hired for a 60-year-old with 20+ years of flooring-remodeling experience? Additionally, I wouldn't be able to jump on roofs easily (past shoulder surgery causes some problems with ladders etc)
