The loudest man in the room is more often than not the weakest man in the room.

It’s a tell tale sign when someone is posturing, and acting like a tough guy. Seeking validation and attention is not generally a trait that someone who is truly dangerous has. Thanks for sharing Jason!

So, the adage I heard over 50 years ago, "fighters don't talk and talkers don't fight" still holds true.

Something that I learned decades ago. The person who leaves the room 5 minutes before a fight breaks out is automatically the winner.

When my father died in '90, a cousin told us that his observation at the commissary was the men who had seen combat were the gentlest of the military men.

Do EVERYTHING you can to avoid a fight
1) You might get hurt or killed
2) You might hurt or kill someone else
3) You never know who has back up. You're a good fighter? Can you win in a two-on-one? That makes it much harder
4) You might face legal issues. So, you won the fight. Great. Now you go to jail or prison. Ultimately, not a win.

One thing I noticed training in Western boxing and later, Muay Thai, is that the best guys had an air of calm self-confidence about them. It's not just the quiet guy who's likely to be dangerous, it's the guy who is relaxed, observant and unfazed by anything going on. That's the guy who knows he'll prevail in any physical confrontation, and feels no need to prove it. That's the guy who'll kick your ass before unhurriedly finishing his drink.

One of my first teachers spoke of the uncertainty, the insecurity, the need to prove something, falling away, if you let it, as skill develops. Over forty years later I remember and appreciate that every time someone's acting up, getting pushy, even when a room gets tense. I find my self-control has become the most satisfying thing to prove. Every time.

In my 50 years of life. I have noticed yes 99.9% of the time the loud guy is all bark. Not just fighting but everything in life. The loud guys usually suck at what they are screaming about.

Yeah...Never mess with the Quiet guy... the one "just" sitting there. The one watching everything going on.

The paramedic stood over me said "he's awake" this was my first sign he could fight....

This is a dangerous assumption. As someone who has been around a lot of violence I will tell you, sometimes that guy running his mouth does know what he is doing. Sometimes that guy posturing has significant training. It all depends on the situation. Your best bet to figure out if someone can fight or not is to actually fight them. For me I just assume everyone has a weapon or is one and act accordingly. I will tell you untrained does not mean incapable and training does not guarantee victory. So figuring out what training if any someone has is irrelevant. What you should be trying to figure out is how to avoid the conflict. If that isn’t an option then you need to figure out your attack plan. Nothing else matters. Stay safe. Retreat is almost always the best option during posturing.

Just because the person is quiet, doesn't mean he's trained to fight. Just because a person is screaming and yelling doesn't mean he'll lose a fight.

Agree….the very last thing i want is any interaction……i will run away rather than fight…..but……please DO NOT chase after me. Fighting has nothing to do with throwing hands…it has everything to do with putting you out of action.

Thumbs up, subscribed. My grandmother who lived in Europe that was over run taught me to fight. 1/run away, if danger still present? 2/run away faster!!! 3/then no other option do what is needed!!! Years of karate she got me in when I was in grade school in Chicago. I’m 63 today. Still workout outdoors every morning at county dog park.

There exceptions but for the most part this is accurate. The dangerous ones don't talk, they just go from 0 to John Wick.
