-look down or at an angle
-rotate stomach side to side per each stroke (to prevent shoulder injuries)
-kick from hips with straight, not bent legs
-pull straight during your breath break
-don’t breathe late and breathe out slowly

This video will make you think you've learned how to swim already, but the pool will say otherwise later.

The more swimming videos I watch the more confident I get in swim class

Freestyle is probably as difficult as learning the piano...and I've done both!
Breathing, kicking, turning, rotating, center of balance....etc.    I've been swimming for many years but still have so much to learn - like the piano!!!

I was naturally acquiring some swimming techniques in freestyle as I was paying attention to details. Glad to see it being validated in this video.

Out of all the videos I’ve watched about doing this stroke properly, this was by FAR the most helpful! Thank you!!

My main problem is that I run out of breath after the first lap and I already need to take a break to breath, meanwhile everyone around me just keep going and going non stop like it's no big deal, and I'm just trying not to pass out.
when I try to swim slower to reduce intensity, It becomes harder not to sink. I need some serious tips

One of the best videos I've seen on improving the forward stroke. If you could elaborate more on the breathing part that would be immensely helpful.

Thank you for this. I am 55 years old and just learned to swim about 2 years ago in adult swimming lessons. I swim 3-4 times a week now and although some individuals at the pool say I have gotten so much better and faster there is always room for improvement. I noticed from your video about swimming flat and I do have that habit and believe it or not...just like you said...I've had some problems out of my left shoulder. I thought I must be catching the water too hard, but this makes me realize I wasn't rotating.

Another one is slapping the water with your hands

This was a good video! As a competitive swimmer I say this video is spot on.

"Easiest stroke to learn, most difficult to master" - Agreed. It seems super easy and then you realize, to gain seconds it is about technique 75%+ and strength <25%

I would like to add "catch-up drills" to help correct a lot of the stroke issues. It will help you become more aware of your body positioning and stroke.

Also; get a pull buoy so you can isolate your arms and focus there, then get a kickboard by itself to isolate your legs. When you can isolate one part of the stroke at a time it can really help you improve your stroke drastically.

When I was in swimming school nobody told me about body rotation but I have checked youtube and learned a lot. :)

I'm 20 and going through beginner's swimming lessons now and I agree; my biggest problem is that I can't breathe properly without swallowing water. I too had no idea body rotation was necessary; I'm guessing my swim instructor is saving it for a future lesson since I am learning from scratch. I too need to work on my confidence to actually go to my pool alone and amongst all the elite swimmers who train there. Good luck learning how to swim!

I've swum for many years, and I was taken aback when my swimming instructor told me that my pull wasn't good enough. According to him, my hands were too close to my body while I pulled. As a result, I wasn't sliding as much as I should. He told me to watch some videos, and I stumbled upon this one, which is really very, very instructive. I'm sharing it.
Thanks guys !

I am learning swimming as natural,  no coach available here. I did all  5 mistakes in my early stages, I am practicing to fix the issues with help of other friends and working on it.   If you would not teach us I would be wrong for ever and ever. thank you for be a good coach for me.

Surprisingly very helpful!
I'm actually a bit irritated now, since for PhysEd in highschool, I had swimming at the teacher instructed us to look forward while we swam rather than look directly below us. Thanks for this. I always used to struggle with breathing : )

Thanks to this video, my freestyle swimming got a LOT faster after correcting my technique. I just got work on my breathing and timing.
