Florida man wrestles alligator to save puppy in dramatic video

A Florida man wrestled an alligator to save his new puppy and managed not to drop his cigar in a harrowing rescue captured on surveillance footage.
Richard Wilbanks, 74, was in his yard with Gunner, his three-month-old puppy when a gator lunged out of the pond and grabbed the little spaniel. The man pried the dog from the reptile's jaws as he emerged from the water.
“Instinct just took over and adrenaline kicked in and I just went right into the water after the gator and Gunner,” he told WBBH.
Wilbanks, Gunner and the alligator are all "doing well" after the incident.
The incident happened in late October around a backyard pond in Estero, Fla., local station WBBH reports, and was captured on camera as part of a project run by the Florida Wildlife Foundation and the fStop Foundation.
