If you’ve been following the launch of Intel’s new Alder Lake CPUs, the new 12th gen chips, you’ll likely have heard about DDR5 - and just how painfully expensive it is. In this video I want to cover what’s actually new with DDR5, including the new XMP 3.0 spec which is actually a massive change from the XMP 2.0 we are all used to, and what makes these things so damn expensive.

I'm looking to buy a pair of those rams, is it worth spending more for the 6000mhz version on CL40 or should i grab the 5200 version and wait later for lower CAS?

The manufacturers themselves are probably having trouble getting the components to produce the modules because of the shipping problems too.

Is it necessary to add heat spreaders to the plain sticks?

Should I get the Micron Crucial DDR5 4800mhz CL40 32gb(single stick) or G.Skill DDR5 5600mhz CL36 32gb(2 sticks)? The G.Skill sticks are about 75% more expensive here for the same amount of ram..

Will the G.Skill DDR5 6000mhz CL36 32gb(2 sticks) make any difference over the 5600 model? it is even more expensive..

I told myself I should probably get the cheapest option until prices come down but I am not sure they will any time soon. I am not holding my breath

I'm OK with the early adopter prices right now. There's no full featured z690 boards with ddr4 support so I'm forced into ddr5. You just can't even buy ddr5 right now even if you want to because none is in stock.

Its so damn expensive meaning there is a point of failure that the manufacturer cant produce a lot of them. Dont buy yet hold off until this is sorted.

So what tasks will suffer due to cl40, for instance ? It is said that file compression is faster on DDR5 (even CL40).

DDR5 looks like a waste of money for the next few years.

1:36 how do you all NOT see the shady shit they are doing so you HAVE to get new stuff, boycott these practices, f-them.

Very informative but I read there probably and like are DDR 6-7 already out there for maybe companies whose job is to test it….whatever but I’m sure DDR 5 is very expensive and that’s why it just barely came out for consumers. Either way apple is probably what I’m going to move to next on my pc purchase.

Soo... DDR5 is brickable? Knacker up a profile rename and bingo.. XMP3 go bye bye. Maybe the whole RAM? Hmm.. worth waiting for early adopters to absorb all the problems teeheehee
