Another great video . Yes the minoans were dominat culture in agean sea through there military navy nd trade fleet ... And they influenced other cultures on the Greek Islands ... Now their culture did not collapse . Let me explain : When the vulcano Island of Thera blow around 16-1550 bce and buried the city akrotiri. The vulcanic activity also started seismic activity on the ocean floor. That sent huge tsunamies Down to Crete. It hit the northern part of the Island . Where it caused huge destuction and destroyed settlement and cretan navy and Trade fleet . And the waves continued up cretan rivers. Where they also caused destructions . But they problems were not over yet. Because vulcanic clouds from Thera was sent with winds Down ti crete. And they contained poisoned vulcanic ash. The ash feel on the fields killing the crops(for bronze age culture dependent of farming this was a disaster), the ash feel on the meadows killing livestock. So that Big uppercut to Crete (famine destruction etc) And so this was not the end of minoan crete. They got back on their feet and continued on for the 90 years. But the golden age was over. Minoan Crete was just secondrate power . And vaccum left by was quikly filled in the mycenean Greek City states from the mainland . The greeks now became dominant culture . And they spread through the agean sea. And many islander on the Greek Islands started ti copy the Greek culture, language and religion ... But Crete did not escape Greek infuence either. Around 1450 bce. Crete was invaded by mainland greeks. And other palaces were plundred and burned down. And Greek mycenean kings ruled from knossos. Linear a writing dissapeared and was replaced by Greek linear B. And the greeks also brought their gods with them . Gods like Zeus, Hera, Athena, Hermes Poseidon etc . The myceneans alteady vorshiped and belived in Thise gods in the bronze age ..., Also the many minoans to copy/emulate Greek culture/language/dress and religion . So minoan Crete was simply absorbed into mycenean Greece. And with the next 200 years minoan culture and language dissapears . But is opened up opotonities for cretans. Minoan Crete was also a place of great art. And many minoan artists had worked as court artisans in great palace cultures in the east. Now many of them found work in courts of the mycenean citystates on the mainland . In Beotia close to the City of Thebes . Traces of cretan settlement had been found. So Its that small comminities of cretan migrated into the Greek mainland to work there So the conquest opened up New possibilities . Before the conquest Minoans and myceneans had been rivals . Now the minoans were part of the Greek World . So some properbly took the chance to get the Best out of it

Just a friendly note. The image you display as the interior of a Minoan Palace at 7:37 is actually an artists depiction of 'Nestor's Palace' a Mycenaean Palace in Mainland Greece.

Genetic analysis shows that Minoans and Myceneans had 3/4 same DNA.

how can anyone dislike this video?! it has been really informative to gain knowledge about this ancient civilisation, which many would not know about if they don't read about it themselves.

The theory that Crete and the Minoan Culture emigrated from Asia Minor, has been discredited, by DNA studies that show that the emigration was from Western Europe, making the Minoan Culture the first Great European Culture.

As a Greek, we learn a shit ton about the Minoans. on top of many legends of ancient greece about king minos, we learn about the minoan lifestyle, their gods, their writing, a lot of stuff.
Recently I've been really interested in the origins of civilization and this shows me my heritage, knowing about the minoans andd recently discovered cycladians.
Also, I am a Greek Cypriot, and we also had contact with the Minoans about 4000 yearss ago. on top of the eteocypriot people and language and writing systems there is the cyprominoan, a writing system very close to Minoan Linear A that also hasn't been deciphered and later on cypriot, a language based off Mycenean Greek, using a writing system close to Linear B

A few things.
1. Have there been archeogenetic studies done on the Minoans? If so, this would go anlong way in clarifying where, and whem, the Minoan peoples originated.
2. There is currently much evidence that when the palace sites were destroyed. There was an inland movement of the Minoan people's to defensible mountain villages, this seems to correspond to the Sea People's invasions and the Bronze Age collapse, which also corresponds with the end of the late Minoan civilisatiin.

My personal theory is that advances by the Mycenaeans into the Aegean put downward pressure on the Minoan civilisation, such that when the Sea Peoples swept theough, they could not fend them off, and collapsed, leaving room for later generations of Greeks to colonize the island.

I wonder what percentage of Minoan DNA survives in the modern populationnof Crete, since it is unlikely that the peoples dissappeard with their civilisation, but rather those that were left integrated with the Greek colonizers.

Some good possible topics to cover in a future follow up video.

Brilliant brief video documentary! Thank you so much for creating and sharing it! i am fascinated with the Minoan civilisations. Another hypothesis regarding their origin is that they came from Ancient Egypt, so I read, if I'm not mistaken. But, as with many other aspects related to the Minoan civlisation, this remains quite speculative. Anyway, keep up the good work, all the best, and plenty of success with your channel and in general!
