Testing the MUDMIXER, best concrete mixer?

Jeff with @barnandhome is going to walk through a 60 SF concrete pour with bags of quick-Crete. This was a quick and easy project at my house and I am a very easy going “customer”. Meaning, I don’t require perfection on my own stuff. If this was for a paying client, I would sub out the work to professional concrete guys. Because it is my own front step to a side porch, it did not have to be super nice, just quick and easy.

If you need a concrete pad for something in your yard, here are the basic steps:

Figure out how you plan to mix the concrete - you can rent one of these machines
Measure out the area and go to concrete calculator .net online and determine how many bags you’ll need
Remove all the grass down several inches
Use lumber to build a form for the shape you want - make sure it is level - or slightly sloped for water run off
Lay a couple inches of gravel level at the bottom
Dump the wet concrete in the space filling it up to the top of the form
Screed off the top with a 2x4 sliding it back and forth
Keep the top either smooth or use a broom for a “brush” finish look
Edge the side if you want
Let it sit for a couple days
Remove the forms from around the edge
Place item on concrete or begin walking on it

You got this!

Way too wet of a mix. That would crack in our weather in 1 season

If the surface is too rough, couldn't you smooth it out later with some quantity of a liquid concrete leveler?

Your concrete is not going to be strong when you put too much water in it! Looks to me like you have about 15 - 20 % too much water in it. Use a bucket for the water, 80 lbs of Quickcrete needs 3 quarts of water, but we can add a cup or so more to make it run better. No MORE! I can mix 7 x 80lb bags of Quickcrete in 22 minutes with a hoe and a mixing tub. Keeping the fat off and saving 4 grand.

In most of the content I see on the mixer, the concrete looks soupy to me.

Only people that know nothing about concrete would use a mudmixer. They don't mix the concrete correctly but, rather just get it wet. The mixture produced by the mudmixer is very low quality suitable only for setting fence posts.Concrete needs to be FULLY WETTED in a mixer before use. The mudmixer does not do this. The result is VERY WEAK concrete that will start flaking apart after a year.

Could have saved a lot of time and effort and just thrown the bags straight in the trash
